The landfill is located in La Phu industrial park, La Phu commune, Hoai Duc district ( Hanoi ).

On June 7, at the landfill in La Phu Industrial Park, La Phu Commune (Hoai Duc District, Hanoi), tons of candy and household waste were dumped into large piles, several meters high, located close to the residential road. That afternoon, it rained, causing the area to emit a strong stench.

According to local residents, the candy dump has been around for about a week. Mr. Nguyen Manh (living in Hoai Duc district) said: "This dump is very unpleasant. When it's sunny, the rancid smell rises, and when it rains, the wastewater flows everywhere.

We, the people, hope that the government will soon clean up, thoroughly handle the situation and closely monitor it so that this situation does not recur."

A giant mountain of candy trash appears in the candy "capital" of La Phu, Hoai Duc district, Hanoi city.

Through observation, the discarded food included many types of candies and snacks that are popular with children such as dried nuts, dried fruits, jellies, gummies, etc. Most of the products were past their expiration date of 2024.

The packaging is printed in Chinese, without a Vietnamese sub-label as required. Many products have designs similar to famous domestic brands, posing a risk of counterfeit goods.

Worryingly, this is not the first time this area has recorded large-scale food waste. Before the Lunar New Year 2025, local authorities also received similar complaints in this area.

According to the reporter’s investigation, La Phu commune currently has more than 100 establishments producing and trading food, confectionery and knitting. The amount of waste generated every day is very large, including industrial waste and unconsumed food.

Speaking with Lao Dong, a representative of the People's Committee of La Phu commune said that recently, the commune government has regularly coordinated with the Interdisciplinary Inspection Team 389 of Hoai Duc district, including the Market Management Team and functional agencies of Hanoi City, to conduct many inspections of business activities, especially on tax issues and the origin of goods. "We are actively propagating and guiding business households to declare taxes, use electronic invoices and comply with legal regulations on the origin of goods. Violations will be strictly handled to ensure a healthy business environment and protect the health of consumers," said a representative of the People's Committee of the commune.
