Recently, social networks have been continuously sharing the story of two Vietnamese men saving the lives of two Japanese babies at Gotenba beach in Mie province (Japan) on the afternoon of August 11.

Calmly change the rescue method

The incident left many people heartbroken when two Japanese children (a boy and a girl) were sitting on a float, playing near a seaside playground, when they were suddenly swept away by strong waves and winds nearly 100 meters from the shore and drifted along the shore for nearly 700 meters.

Realizing the danger was imminent as the tide receded quickly and the buoy could capsize at any moment, two young Vietnamese men, Pham Quoc Dat (27 years old) and Tong Manh Tuan (30 years old), immediately jumped into the sea to rescue them.

The action that caused a stir in Japan by two Vietnamese guys: Saving two babies with... bicycle tires

Sharing with Thanh Nien recently, Mr. Dat said that while playing at the beach that day, he and his group of friends realized something was wrong when they heard a cry for help in the distance and it seemed like there were two small children sitting on a buoy being swept away by the waves.

"At that moment, Tuan and I didn't think much, we tried to swim out to bring the two children to shore. At that time, there was a strong wind, very big waves and the tide was going down quickly, the first time we approached the children, we were unsuccessful so we had to return to shore and change the rescue method," the Vietnamese man recounted.

They then jogged along the beach and when they reached a position on the shore that was almost level with the buoy of the two children in the distance, they used a buoy made from a bicycle tire and jumped into the sea to catch up. Luckily, Mr. Dat was in the bicycle business so he had this "special buoy" available and he knew how to use it.

This time, Mr. Tuan and Mr. Dat were able to reach the two children. They immediately reassured them, and the children knew they were being helped, so they became calmer. After more than 30 minutes of struggling with the waves, Mr. Tuan and Mr. Dat brought the two children safely to shore, to the joy of their families and witnesses.

Vietnamese people in Japan "get benefits"

"When I swam out to save the children, I didn't think much. I just saw that the two children were in danger, I just thought I would try to save them. At that time, I was just afraid that something would happen to the two children, so I tried to get to them as quickly as possible," Dat said.

As for Mr. Tuan, after suddenly becoming known to many people with a "shower of compliments" from social networks, he smiled and said that his life still went on, still going to work as usual. For him, this was an unforgettable memory when he first saved someone underwater, in such a dangerous situation.

Mr. Dat is from the old Vung Tau (HCMC), living and working in Japan for 6 years now. He is currently running a bicycle and coffee shop business, settling down with life here. Meanwhile, Mr. Tuan is from Gia Lai , also living and working in Japan for many years now.

Sharing with Thanh Nien on the morning of August 14, Mr. Phuong Linh, who witnessed the entire incident that day, said that as a Vietnamese in Japan, he was extremely touched and proud of the actions of the two kind young men.

"In a foreign land, my friends did not hesitate to risk their lives, regardless of the strong winds and waves, to save two Japanese children. It was not only a brave act, but also a testament to humanity, to the beautiful image of Vietnamese people, full of compassion, ready to help others without calculation," he expressed.

Mr. Phuong Linh believes that actions like this will contribute to strengthening the relationship between Vietnamese and Japanese people.
