New life in the revolutionary village of Yen Lo

Yen Lo village gate.

During the period 1930-1945, Yen Lo village connected with Dong Minh, Dong Chi, Dong Tam, Dong Tien, Dong Thanh, Dong Bao villages of Thieu Toan commune to form a revolutionary countryside, raising a movement to fight against high taxes and heavy duties of Japanese fascists, and to take power into the hands of the people. Yen Lo village was formerly called An Lo village (also known as Lo village). The communal houses, pagodas, and temples of Yen Lo village were all places where many historical events and secret activities of the revolutionary movement took place.

Yen Lo Pagoda was built on the rocky mountainside. In 1928, the pagoda was renovated. In 1935, comrade Hoang Van Que, a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam , later a member of the Thieu Hoa District Party Committee (August 1945), came to look after the pagoda for revolutionary activities. During the period of 1935-1936, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee held many conferences here to consolidate the organization and revolutionary movement. The communication between revolutionary cadres used the pagoda as a secret meeting place. After many historical ups and downs, the pagoda became a ruin for a period of time. However, with the attention of all levels, sectors, and generations of descendants of Yen Lo village, they joined hands to restore and embellish the pagoda to be more spacious, but still did not lose its inherent serenity and peace. Up to now, the pagoda is still a spiritual destination, a way back to the roots of all Yen Lo people and children far from home, and is also a destination for tourists from all directions.

Located at the foot of Yen Lo mountain is the Yen Lo communal house relic. The communal house worships the god Nguyen Tung, also known as Tan Vien Cong Hung. This is also the place where many historical events took place associated with the revolutionary movement, with loyal communist soldiers and Yen Lo people. In 1930, the ceremony to admit members of the Red Peasant Association was held here. In 1934, Yen Lo communal house was the place to print revolutionary documents...

From 1927 to 1945, Yen Lo communal house was the meeting place of various organizations, the place where the conference to establish the Anti-Imperialist Front, the Viet Minh Front took place. In particular, in May 1950, the 4th Congress of the Thieu Hoa District Party Committee was held here, setting out the direction for leading the people to implement the Party's policy of resistance and national construction.

In 2000, Yen Lo pagoda, communal house and communal house were recognized as a provincial-level historical revolutionary relic cluster.

Entering the integration and development stage of the country, Yen Lo village always promotes the revolutionary tradition, cadres and people unite, join hands, and wholeheartedly build the increasingly innovative homeland. Yen Lo is the first village of the former Thieu Vu commune to be recognized as a model new-style rural village in 2023.

Party cell secretary and head of Yen Lo village Nguyen Chi Thanh shared: “Promoting the tradition of the revolutionary homeland, the village party cell always maintains solidarity and unity within the Party. The party cell focuses on leading and directing comprehensive development in all aspects in the spirit of promoting democracy, transparency, and taking the people as the root... so everything is trusted and agreed upon by the people. This is a lesson that the party cell always upholds and promotes, especially in building a clean party cell and building the earliest model village of the old Thieu Vu commune”.

During the process of building a model village, Yen Lo has mobilized nearly 2.5 billion VND from social resources to invest in building rural infrastructure; expanding and concreting roads; building model fences, renovating many roads according to the criteria of bright - green - clean - beautiful - safe...; The village Party cell has propagated and mobilized people to actively apply scientific and technical advances, transform the structure of crops and livestock to bring high economic efficiency. Thanks to that, the material and spiritual life of the people has been increasingly improved. Currently, the average income per capita of Yen Lo village reaches nearly 70 million VND/year.

After 80 years since the uprising to take power into the hands of the people, Yen Lo village, like many other villages, still maintains the flame of revolutionary tradition and breaks through to move forward. The name of the land and the village have been soaked with the sweat and blood of our ancestors to enter a new stage. The "revolutionary torch" still shines brightly so that Yen Lo people can continue to write the golden history of their homeland, contributing together with the Party Committee of Thieu Tien commune to strive to become a rural area with a "friendly - civilized - modern" life, rich in identity and worth living.
