In the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, it was emphasized that from 2020 to 2025, the whole province strives for local goods to increase by an average of 8-9%. To achieve the above target, the Provincial People's Committee has directed relevant departments, branches and units to synchronously deploy solutions to promote the export of local goods.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, from 2020 to the end of 2024, on average, local export turnover increased by 8 to 9% each year. However, in the first 6 months of 2025, local export turnover reached 74 million USD, reaching 40.4% of the 2025 plan, only equivalent to the same period in 2024.
Mr. Tran Van Hung, Deputy Director of Thai Binh Tea Joint Stock Company, said: Currently, the company has over 20 hectares of tea. In addition, the company also cooperates with local people to produce about 170 hectares of tea. In recent years, the company has mainly exported tea to markets in several countries such as Taiwan, Russia, etc. Since the beginning of 2025, prolonged drought has caused many tea areas to die, leading to a sharp decrease in tea output. formation, in the first 6 months of 2025, the company's tea harvest output reached about 200 tons of fresh tea, down 70% over the same period. This also greatly affects the company's export orders.
Not only tea products, the export output of various types of wood products has also decreased sharply. Mr. Hoang Minh Phuc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuan Son Commune (a commune with a large number of wood processing establishments) said: The whole commune currently has over 5,000 hectares of planted forest wood; the exploited output reaches over 14,000 m3 of wood/year. In recent years, the commune has strongly wood processing, the whole commune currently has 35 establishments and enterprises. In the past 2 months, the market for wood products has encountered many difficulties. The reason is that most of the plywood production establishments are small-scale, operating seasonally; the consumption market is unstable, mainly depending on orders from enterprises purchasing and exporting to China, so when Chinese enterprises reduce import output, it has had a direct impact, affecting the production activities of processing establishments.
According to the assessment of professional agencies, the reason for the stagnation in local export turnover in the first 6 months of 2025 is that local production and processing enterprises are mainly small and medium enterprises; there is a lack of investment in scale, production lines and equipment; Local products are mainly exported in raw form, without investment in deep processing... Meanwhile, foreign markets are increasingly demanding on quality, traceability, along with competition from similar products. In addition, since the beginning of 2025, countries, especially China, have continuously changed their border trade management mechanisms and policies, which have significantly affected exports. In addition, the prolonged drought at the beginning of the year also reduced the productivity and output of the province's key agricultural and forestry products.
To promote the export of local goods, striving to achieve and exceed the target for 2025, departments and branches, with the core being the Department of Industry and Trade, have coordinated to implement solutions. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dai, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: The export turnover of local goods is one of the important factors contributing to the economic and social growth target of the province. However, in the first 6 months of the year, the export turnover of local goods did not record any growth. Faced with this situation, the department has assessed and analyzed the causes to have timely support solutions. evolving, the department is currently coordinated with relevant units to promote trade promotion activities; enhance promotion, introduction and connection to consumer markets. At the same time, the department propagates and encourages businesses to boldly invest, expand production scale in the direction of deep processing, increase product value; Proactively learn about the mechanisms and policies of potential markets, especially in the context of many fluctuations and changes in tariff and import policies in countries around the world...
It is believed that with the attention of the departments and the initiative of enterprises, the local export turnover will have a step of growth in the coming time. However, in order for the export of the province's key products to be sustainable and stable, it is necessary for the relevant departments and branches to fully research and evaluate the opportunities, challenges, potentials and conditions for developing production and exporting agricultural and forestry products of the province in the new context. From there, propose solutions to develop supply chains, promote and diversify export methods and markets.
