According to the Ministry of Education and Training , 5/5 students of the team won medals. The gold medal belonged to Nguyen The Quan, a 12th grade student at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An province.

The four silver medals went to: Ly Ba Khoi and Truong Duc Dung, 12th graders, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences (Hanoi); Nguyen Cong Vinh, 12th grader, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted (Bac Ninh); Tran Le Thien Nhan, 12th grader, Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted (Hue).

This top 10 achievement continues the impressive series of results that Vietnamese student delegations have achieved at international and regional Olympic competitions over the past many years. Last year, the Vietnamese team won 2 gold medals and 3 silver medals.

The 2025 International Physics Olympiad will be held in France from July 17 to July 25, with the participation of 94 delegations (including 5 observer delegations) from 94 countries and territories, and 406 contestants.

The exam consists of two official days: one day of theory and one day of practical exam, each exam has a duration of 5 hours.

The theoretical and experimental exams demonstrate a subtle combination of modern physics and familiar practical phenomena, from the structure of hydrogen atoms to the structure of galaxies, from the oscillation of magnets to the formation of meteorite craters. The problem of the formation of bubbles in a glass of champagne not only has profound physics meaning (related to pressure, acoustics, viscous friction, etc.) but is also a unique cultural highlight, bringing French culinary traditions into the IPhO exam.

The experimental test consisted of two math problems that required synthetic thinking and precise measurement skills; one involved landing and safely moving the rover, avoiding getting bogged down in sand dunes on the surface of Mars. The other used a Gouy balance to measure magnetic moments.

The closing ceremony and announcement of the IPhO 2025 results will take place at 9:00 p.m. on July 24.
