Immediately after the memorial service, leaders and more than 3,000 union members, youth, students, and children of the city together offered flowers, incense, and lit 25,000 candles of gratitude at the martyrs’ graves in 4 cemeteries. Each candle is a deep gratitude, a promise to continue from the young generation of the city today.

Representing the city’s youth, Ms. Nguyen Hoa Kim Thai, former Vice President of the Vietnam Student Association of the University of Economics and Law (VNU-HCM), expressed her deep gratitude to the heroic Vietnamese mothers, families of martyrs and those with meritorious services. At the same time, she affirmed that the young generation of Ho Chi Minh City today always remembers the heroic tradition of their fathers and brothers, continuing to build and protect the Fatherland with a sense of responsibility, creativity and patriotism.
"The youth of Ho Chi Minh City were once the ones who rushed forward and were ready to sacrifice during the years of fighting for national independence. And today, the youth of Ho Chi Minh City continue to be a generation that is grateful, loves their homeland, and is ready to pass on the ideal to the future," Ms. Nguyen Hoa Kim Thai affirmed.

Continuing the program, on July 26 and 27, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union organized a series of gratitude activities in Con Dao special zone. The activities included: a flag-raising ceremony at the National Flagpole, visiting Hang Duong Cemetery and Hang Keo Cemetery; visiting and donating books and equipment to schools on the island; giving gifts to former political prisoners, families of martyrs, meritorious people and armed forces working in Con Dao.
