Dak Lak durian - Journey to conquer the international market
Faced with increasingly stringent market requirements, the durian industry is striving to build qualified businesses and propose recognition of safe growing areas.
In Dak Lak, the durian growing area is currently about 41,000 hectares, with an expected output this year of about 400,000 tons, a significant increase compared to previous years.
High output means quality control and stable output. In particular, the Chinese market, the main consumer of Vietnamese durian, is tightening requirements for testing for banned substances and heavy metal residues such as cadmium.
In this context, the Dak Lak durian industry is facing a major challenge in complying with export standards. Mr. Le Tan Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Thang Tien Agricultural Cooperative (Krong Pac District, Dak Lak), said that the cooperative currently manages about 2,500 hectares of durian.
It is expected that the harvest output in the 2025 crop season will reach 8,000 to 10,000 tons, and is likely to increase to 50,000 tons by 2030. With such a large output, the cooperative pays special attention to sustainable development and ensuring stable output for farmers.
Currently, the Cooperative has begun to deploy a QR code system to trace the origin of each garden in the growing areas. The Cooperative also wishes to cooperate with processing and exporting enterprises to build a standard raw material area, providing safe, biological, organic products with clear traceability.
