Gia Lai: More than 350 hectares of rice are damaged by pests

(GLO)- The Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Gia Lai province said: Currently, the autumn rice crop is entering the flowering-milk-firm-ripe stage. However, some rice areas have recorded the emergence of pests and diseases, affecting the growth process.

Through inspection, about 37 hectares of autumn rice were damaged by brown planthoppers and white-backed planthoppers with a common density of 500-1,000 individuals/m², in some places up to 2,000 individuals/m²; concentrated in the communes/wards in the East of the province such as: Tay Son, Binh An, Hoai Nhon Bac, Hoai Nhon, Tam Quan, An Tuong, An Hao, Ngo May, Xuan An... The planthoppers are mainly at the age of 1-3.

In addition, in Phu Cat, De Gi, Cat Tien communes... the two-spotted stem borer has also begun to appear with a density of 0.2-0.5 egg nests/m². Sheath blight is also damaging 97 hectares of autumn rice, with a common infection rate of 10-20%, up to 30% in some places. Meanwhile, the Summer-Autumn rice crop is in the tillering-heading stage in the communes/wards in the West of the province, and pests and diseases have also been recorded. Leaf blast disease has appeared on 186 hectares, with a common rate of 5-10%, locally up to 15%. Affected localities include: An Binh, An Khe, Cuu An, Kong Bla, To Tung, Chu Prong...

In addition, 47 hectares of other summer-autumn rice in the communes of Ya Hoi, Dak Song, Kon Chieng, Lo Pang, Ya Ma, Kong Chro... were also damaged by the two-spotted stem borer, causing the phenomenon of wilting at a rate of 5-10%. The Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection is directing regional cultivation and plant protection stations to continue coordinating with the People's Committees of communes and wards to conduct surveys, forecasts and provide guidance on preventing and controlling pests in the rice crop.
