131 people hospitalized after housewarming party, suspected of food poisoning

(Dan Tri) - 131 people in Ia Hiao commune, Gia Lai province were hospitalized with symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever after eating at a housewarming party, suspected of food poisoning.

On August 30, the Gia Lai Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department said that 131 people were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning after attending a housewarming party.

Previously, at around 11:00 a.m. on August 28, Mr. K.D.'s family (residing in Chrôh Ponan village, Ia Hiao commune, Gia Lai province) held a housewarming party and invited 220 people to attend.

Mr. D. hired the business household NTH (residing in Thanh Binh village, Ia Hiao commune) to cook and serve dishes with a menu including: dumplings, spring rolls, grilled meat, spring rolls, beef dipped in bitter melon, honey roasted chicken, stir-fried pork with lemongrass and chili...

At 6:00 p.m. the same day, some attendees showed symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever, so their families took them to Phu Thien Medical Center and Ayun Pa Medical Center for treatment.

On August 29, many people who attended the housewarming party also had similar symptoms and went to medical facilities for health check-ups.

As of August 30, Phu Thien Medical Center received 58 patients and Ayun Pa Medical Center received 73 patients; a total of 131 patients and all with the same symptoms.

According to the report of the Gia Lai Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department, because the food had run out, the authorities were unable to collect samples. After verifying and obtaining information from the medical center, it is suspected that this was a food poisoning incident that occurred at Mr. D.'s housewarming party.

A representative of the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Health said that 131 patients have stabilized and are being monitored and treated at medical facilities.

The provincial Department of Health has directed ambulances to go to the village to take the patient to the emergency room; checking people who participated in the meal to avoid missing any patients.

Regarding the incident, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department has requested Ms. H. to stop her food service business to verify and handle the incident according to regulations.
