Man Utd pay a heavy price after first win of the season

Matheus Cunha suffered a hamstring injury and had to leave the field early in the match against Burnley in the third round of the Premier League at Old Trafford on the evening of August 30. Coach Ruben Amorim admitted after the match that the extent of the injury was unclear, but stressed: "We really need him to maintain our competitiveness."

On Twitter, the Brazilian team announced that Cunha suffered a muscle injury and was withdrawn from coach Carlo Ancelotti's squad. He was replaced by Flamengo's Samuel Lino (30 years old). This decision was made after direct communication between the medical staff of Man Utd and the Brazilian team.

Not only Cunha, Manchester United also lost Mason Mount. The English midfielder had to leave the field in the first half, making way for Kobbie Mainoo. Amorim revealed that Mount tried to play 30 minutes despite being injured: "It's very difficult to lose both Cunha and Mount. I'm worried because they are both extremely important players. We have to wait for the test results."

Cunha started the 12-11 penalty shootout defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup in midweek, while Mount came on in the 64th minute. Amorim believes the high intensity of the matches could be the cause of the injuries.

“With Cunha, maybe the midweek game contributed to today’s problem. With Mount, I don’t want to risk any other players with no clear fitness. It’s all linked,” he said.

If Cunha is lost for a long time, Man Utd will suffer a big loss. The Brazilian player only joined Man Utd last summer but immediately proved his important role when playing extremely energetically in the role of an attacking midfielder.
