
Of which, nearly 4,000 students study abroad on state budget scholarships managed by the Ministry of Education and Training .
International students studying and researching abroad with funding from non-state budget sources are mainly on other scholarships and self-funded.
Self-funded international students study through study abroad consulting service organizations or contact foreign training institutions themselves.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training will receive 597 foreign students to study in Vietnam under the Agreement (11 countries including 407 Vietnamese language preparatory, 45 university, 68 master, 11 doctor, 66 short-term), mainly students from Laos and Cambodia; a small number from the Russian Federation, China and some other countries.
There are currently about 22,000 foreign students studying at educational institutions in Vietnam (not including students coming for short-term study, research and training); of which nearly 4,000 are students under the Agreement (mainly students from Laos and Cambodia).
There are many different types of international students coming to Vietnam to study and intern. In addition to the number of students coming to Vietnam under the Agreement scholarships, the majority of international students come to study through various channels such as self-funding, according to bilateral agreements at the school or local level.
The Ministry of Education and Training said: To promote the training of high-quality human resources abroad using the state budget, the Ministry of Education and Training is implementing the Project "Improving the capacity of lecturers and managers of higher education institutions to meet the requirements of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training in the 2019-2030 period" and the Agreement scholarship programs (11 countries) to send people to study abroad using the state budget.
The subjects sent to study include officials, civil servants, public employees, students, and trainees.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training sent 597 people (105 PhDs, 177 Masters, 274 Bachelors, 41 Interns) to study under Agreement scholarship programs (mainly in the Russian Federation, Hungary, China, Poland, Laos, Cambodia); 73 lecturers from higher education institutions to study for a PhD under Project 89 (12 countries), mainly in Australia, the UK, and New Zealand; and at the same time received 693 international graduates.
International students are sent to study abroad mainly in priority fields of science, technology, economics , management, medicine, arts and many other fields that Vietnam has high training needs.
