Since the beginning of August 2025, domestic pepper prices have increased by nearly VND 10,000/kg. After a sharp decline in the previous quarter, the market has been recovering significantly since the beginning of the third quarter. Although trading has not been very active due to limited end-of-season supply, the high price level has created positive sentiment for pepper farmers.
Domestic pepper prices are facing the possibility of reaching a new level, as many forecasts suggest that the level of 150,000 VND/kg could be completely surpassed in the near future. The reason comes from the decline in supply, while domestic and foreign demand remains stable and tends to increase.
Experts believe that the price increase still has room to grow as the market enters a busy trading period before the National Day holiday. In addition, investors are awaiting the Fed's decision to cut the USD interest rate in September 2025, a factor that could have a positive impact on the commodity market, including pepper.
Import demand from major markets such as China, the US, Europe and the Middle East continues to increase. Domestic enterprises are also stepping up purchases to serve processing and export at the end of the year. Along with that, escalating international logistics costs due to fluctuations in shipping have further motivated domestic pepper prices to grow.
Pepper price today August 27 in the world market
In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of pepper of all types traded in the international market on August 26 (local time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at $7,307 per tonne. Meanwhile, Muntok white pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at $10,155 per tonne.
Brazilian ASTA black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,000/tonne.
Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,600/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price also remained unchanged from yesterday at $12,800/ton.
Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l reached 6,240 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,370 USD/ton.
Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $8,950/ton.
Vietnam's pepper exports to the US in the first half of this year tended to decrease, mainly due to the adjustment period before the new tax policy. However, it is forecasted that from the fourth quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026, the US will increase orders to prepare for the peak consumption season. With the advantage of lower tax rates than competing countries and stable supply capacity, Vietnamese pepper is expected to recover strongly in the US market in the second half of the year.
Pepper output in 2025 is expected to decrease due to a narrowing of the planting area and a number of farmers switching to other crops. In addition, unfavorable weather factors have caused productivity to decrease compared to previous years, making the supply even more scarce.
Not only has output decreased, but the amount of goods circulating on the market is also very limited. Inventory is currently only enough for more than a month of consumption, while many businesses and traders are actively hoarding goods, waiting for higher prices to sell. Demand has continuously exceeded supply over the past 5 years, causing global inventories to remain low, creating additional pressure on pepper prices.
According to statistics, Vietnam's pepper exports in the first half of August 2025 reached 71.8 million USD, bringing the total turnover from the beginning of the year to August 15 to 1.06 billion USD. The latest report from Nedspice shows that global pepper output in 2025 will reach about 434,000 tons, equivalent to last year.
