The East Sea is about to welcome a tropical depression, which may cause rain on the occasion of National Day, September 2

According to initial assessments by experts, a tropical depression is likely to appear in the East Sea in the last days of August, heading inland and causing rain during the September 2 holiday.

Ms. Le Thi Xuan Lan, a hydrometeorological forecaster, said that currently (August 26), a low pressure area has appeared in the East of the Philippines. According to Japan's forecast model, this low pressure area may enter the East Sea in about 2 days.

"When entering the East Sea, the rather humid sea surface conditions provide energy for the low pressure area to develop into a tropical depression. It is also possible that when the low pressure enters near the Hoang Sa special zone, near the Gulf of Tonkin, it may strengthen.

What I worry about most is that according to the forecast, the tropical depression may strengthen, move inland to Vietnam, heading towards the Central region, possibly making landfall around August 31, later maybe until September 1," Ms. Lan commented.

The East Sea is likely to have a tropical depression.

Ms. Lan added that the tropical depression will cause rain, including in Hanoi . If the tropical depression weakens and makes landfall a day earlier or later, the rain will only be concentrated in the evening. If it makes landfall on September 1, there may be heavy rain on September 2, affecting activities during the parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2.

Ms. Lan noted that these are only initial assessments and forecasts may change. However, early information can help people, especially fishermen at sea, take precautions.

Last night and this morning, due to the impact of storm No. 5 Kajiki, heavy rain continuously poured down on the midlands, the Northern Delta, Son La, Lao Cai and from Thanh Hoa to Northern Quang Tri, some places had very heavy rain. In particular, Phu Tho, Hanoi and Thanh Hoa, Nghe An are the 4 localities with heavy to very heavy rain, flooding occurred in many places.

The rainfall observed from 7pm on August 25 to 8am on August 26, many places exceeded the 200mm threshold such as: Ta Si Lang station (Lao Cai) 230mm; Van Mai station (Phu Tho) 270mm; Thach That station (Hanoi) 261.4mm; Van Xuan 1 station (Thanh Hoa) 220mm; Dong Van hydropower station (Nghe An) 272mm; Ho Xuan Hoa station ( Ha Tinh ) 242.4mm...

From now until the morning of August 27, moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue to cover the midland and delta regions of the North, including Hanoi, Son La, Lao Cai, and Thanh Hoa.

On August 26, Nghe An to Ha Tinh experienced moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, rainfall ranging from 20-50mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm.

The meteorological agency specifically warned of the risk of heavy rain with rainfall in 3 hours possibly exceeding 100mm, this is a heavy rain level, with many potential risks of natural disasters such as flash floods, landslides, and flooding causing damage to people and property.

In addition, on the day and night of August 26, other places in the North will have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy rain, with estimated rainfall of 20-40mm, in some places over 100mm.

The Central Highlands and the South will have showers and thunderstorms, however, the observed rainfall is forecast to be lower than the above areas, ranging from 10-30mm, with local heavy rains over 80mm. People need to be extremely vigilant against the risk of heavy rain, over 70mm in 3 hours.
