Vietnam Women's Volleyball: 'Strange' Parameters Among Giants

In their first participation in the women's volleyball world championship, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team created 'unique' disciplinary parameters among giant opponents.

Amidst the fierce competition of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship in Thailand, the Vietnamese team entered the field with all their heart and pride.

The defeats against Poland or Germany did not overshadow Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, Doan Thi Lam Oanh or Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh.

On the contrary, the past two matches have made the image of Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's students even more memorable: a small team in terms of stature but proud, steadfast and resilient.

In that lineup, Lam Oanh stands out as a testament to willpower. The setter is only 1.78 m tall – much shorter than the average setter in the world – but still ranks in the top 9 with 53 successful passes, and is also in the top 6 in serving with 3 direct points.

Amidst the opponents' high-reaching arms, Lam Oanh still found gaps to create opportunities for her teammates to launch powerful shots.

Thanh Thuy – the pride of Vietnamese volleyball – continues to be a moral support. Her position in the group of 18 best attackers of the tournament is not just a number, but also a reward for months of hard work and perseverance.

Next to her, Nhu Quynh, a petite Thai ethnic girl, also squeezed into the top 19 hitters, adding hope to a new generation that is growing up strongly.

And at the net, Kieu Trinh – only 1.77 m tall – still confidently reached out to block the ball. She contributed 3 points from successful blocks, ranking in the top 8 blockers of the tournament.

In a world where giants rule, the image of Trinh raising her slender arms to block a lightning strike from her opponent brings a special feeling: small but resilient, weak but not retreating.

In Group G, only 3 milestones were recorded better than Trinh's achievement: 7 points from blocking - belonging to Marie Scholzel (Germany), Magdalena Stysiak (Poland); 6 points - Agnieszka Korneluk (Poland); 5 points - Camilla Weitzel (Germany).

The height of these opponents? Scholzel 1.90 m; Stysiak up to 2.03 m; Korneluk 2 m; Weitzel 1.95 m.

Vietnam women's volleyball team sent a clear message: we came here to learn, but also to assert ourselves.

Cold statistics suddenly become warm when placed in a story of spirit and faith.

The Vietnamese girls have shown the world that volleyball is not only measured by height or strength, but also by a burning heart and the unity of a whole team.

The final match of the group stage is ahead, against Kenya (5pm on August 27). While waiting for a new page in history, the golden girls have written a journey full of interesting things, where each pass, smash, block contains the desire to rise up, so that the world remembers: Vietnamese volleyball is not only present, but also shows the world who we are.
