On the morning of August 27, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City organized a meeting with overseas Vietnamese to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
Attending the meeting, more than 50 overseas Vietnamese visited the Ho Chi Minh City Museum, listened to the introduction of the exhibition of cultural and artistic works with the theme "Vietnam in the eyes of overseas Vietnamese",...
Delegates also interacted with researchers and historical speakers, discovering untold stories and heroic milestones of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.
Through the activities, overseas Vietnamese have the opportunity to review the heroic history of our nation, enhance patriotism and national pride, and consolidate and foster confidence in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai, Deputy Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, shared that the Party and State have identified overseas Vietnamese as an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation, a resource contributing to national construction, strengthening international cooperation, and preserving national cultural identity.
Currently, there are nearly 3 million overseas Vietnamese people with connections to Ho Chi Minh City, accounting for nearly 50% of the total number of our compatriots worldwide, and more than 2.2 million people are living in leading economic , scientific and technological centers, the overseas Vietnamese community.
The annual remittances to Ho Chi Minh City account for 40-53% of the total remittances of the whole country. In 2024, it will reach about 10.3 billion USD, an increase of 140 million USD compared to 2023. Notably, in the second quarter of 2025, the remittances reached nearly 2.82 billion USD, an increase of 17% compared to the previous quarter. This is a clear demonstration of the trust and attachment of our compatriots abroad to their homeland.
According to Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai, to continue promoting resources from overseas Vietnamese, Ho Chi Minh City is implementing many solutions and perfecting policies to create favorable conditions for compatriots to participate in investment, production and business in the city.
