Park Hyun-kuk, chairman of Bonghwa County, said that this locality was the homeland of the Ly Dynasty royal family when they set foot in Goryeo. King Ly Thai To is considered the ancestor of the Ly Dynasty royal family descendants in Bonghwa.
South Korean authorities are also building a Vietnamese village in Bonghwa, around the relic site of the Vietnamese Ly Dynasty descendants, Trung Hieu Duong, with an investment of 146 million USD on a nearly 4-hectare land area.
In the 12th century, when the Ly dynasty fell, Prince Ly Long Tuong, the 7th son of King Ly Anh Tong, crossed the sea to Korea to take refuge and was treated well by King Cao Tong of this country.
Ly Long Tuong later made achievements against the Yuan-Mongol army and was awarded the title of General of Hwa-Shan, a high title in the Goryeo Dynasty. The King of Goryeo also granted the Prince land in Hwa-Shan, now in Korea, from which he established the Ly Hwa-Shan family, producing many descendants with high titles in history.
Currently, Chung Hieu Duong in Bonghwa is the only remaining relic of the Ly family in Korea, including the memorial stele of Prince Ly Long Tuong.
