Firmino will join Al Sadd, one of the top teams in Qatar. The decision was made after the former Liverpool star lifted the AFC Champions League trophy with Al Ahli last summer. Despite having one year left on his contract, Firmino has decided to leave the Saudi Arabian club.
Al Ahli chairman Khaled Al-Ghamdi told the media that the team allowed Firmino to leave the club before the end of his contract after two years with the club.
Firmino's departure was expected as he was not registered by Al Ahli for the second phase of the 2024/25 Saudi Pro League. In continental competitions, Firmino has had an impressive performance with 6 goals and 7 assists, including 2 assists in the AFC Champions League final against Kawasaki Frontale.
Brazilian press said Flamengo wanted to sign Firmino this summer but the striker decided to continue playing in the Middle East.
Al Ahli are actively looking for a new striker for the 2025/26 season, with Lionel Messi and Mason Greenwood being targeted. However, the club has yet to make any official offers.
