The heroic years
Le Thanh International Border Guard Station was established on June 15, 1975 with the original name of Ia Kla People's Armed Police Station. After many name changes, from April 20, 2012, the unit was officially named Le Thanh International Border Guard Station.
Right from the first days of its establishment, the unit's officers and soldiers were intelligent and brave, overcame countless difficulties, hardships, and sacrifices, and made efforts to excellently complete the task of managing and protecting the border that had not yet been demarcated and marked, and protecting the area after liberation; and resisted the provocation and armed invasion from the other side of the border by the Pol Pot reactionaries.
To carry out the tactical plan of Military Region 5, from June 18 to 26, 1978, the unit of 16 officers and soldiers bravely fought a Khmer Rouge battalion in an isolated siege but still held its target. In this battle, 11 officers and soldiers of the unit heroically sacrificed their lives. On December 20, 1979, the Post was honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State.
From then until the late 1980s, officers and soldiers of the Le Thanh International Border Guard Station both fought against the Khmer Rouge's encroachment on the border and organized raids against FULRO remnants, protecting the peaceful life of the villages. The unit proactively deployed forces, effectively carried out all aspects of work, and excellently completed all assigned tasks. The station built many special projects, launched dozens of raids, destroyed and captured hundreds of FULRO members, and seized many types of weapons.
In addition, the unit also organized and mobilized the masses to propagate and mobilize dozens of FULRO and puppet soldiers and authorities hiding in the forest to present themselves to the authorities, contributing to maintaining political security and social order and safety in the border area.
Promoting tradition, building a strong unit
During the renovation period, Le Thanh International Border Guard Station has always thoroughly grasped the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and resolutions and directives of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense , the Border Guard Command; the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Party Committee and Border Guard Command, especially Resolution No. 33-NQ/TW dated September 28, 2018 of the Politburo on "National border protection strategy in the new situation".
Strengthening the building of a clean and strong Party organization; building a comprehensively strong "Exemplary" unit, improving overall quality. The unit's level and combat readiness are constantly improved. The unit always completes assigned tasks, many of which are completed well and excellently.
Along with that, the unit has focused on implementing breakthroughs such as: improving training quality, building regulations, and enforcing discipline. Military administrative reform has been effectively implemented; border gate management has been well implemented, applying information technology to handle entry-exit and import-export procedures.
Foreign affairs in national defense and border protection have been strengthened, consolidated and ensured the highest national interests; building a peaceful, friendly, cooperative and developed border. The entire unit is always united, proactive, creative, self-reliant, self-reliant, exemplary in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, taking the lead in preventing and combating degradation, "self-evolution", "self-transformation".
In addition, the unit has proactively grasped the situation, promptly advised the superior Party Committee and local Party Committees and authorities to well perform military, defense and border tasks; presided over and closely coordinated with forces to effectively handle situations on the border.
These include the effectiveness of the work of preventing and combating infiltration and border crossing; combating illegal activities in border areas, participating in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic, firmly protecting territorial sovereignty and national border security; maintaining a peaceful and stable environment to contribute to the socio-economic development of localities and the country.
Colonel Tran Tien Hai, Commander of the Provincial Border Guard Command, said: Le Thanh International Border Guard Station is one of the bright spots of the Provincial Border Guard; it is a key unit in border management and protection activities, in building a comprehensive, strong and disciplined border.
The station has closely coordinated with staff forces to advise local Party committees and authorities to synchronously deploy solutions to build a people's border defense; deploy models, programs, and movements to help people develop the economy and build a solid people's position in the border area.
“In the foreign affairs work to protect the border with Cambodia, Le Thanh International Border Guard Station has thoroughly grasped the principles, viewpoints and guidelines of the Party; regularly maintained exchanges and coordination with the Cambodian border protection force in the spirit of trust, understanding, together building a peaceful and friendly border, contributing to the economic, cultural and social development of the province as well as the country,” Colonel Hai affirmed.
Along with performing well the task of border management and protection, in recent years, officers and soldiers of Le Thanh International Border Guard Station have always been the core force in building a stable and developed border area, contributing to building an increasingly solid border defense posture and people's border defense.
Currently, the Station has 1 cadre as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Ia Dom Commune (Duc Co District), 7 party members participating in activities at 7 village party cells and 52 party members taking charge of 132 households. The unit has proactively built and deployed many new, creative movements, programs and models, implemented effectively, with strategic nature and profound political and social significance, receiving consensus, support and high appreciation from the Party Committee, government and people.
Talking about the role of Le Thanh International Border Guard Station in building and consolidating the area, Mr. Tang Ngoc Trai - Chairman of Ia Dom Commune People's Committee - said: Over the years, the Station has made many practical contributions to the locality. The models, programs and movements that the unit has implemented are truly practical and effective, promptly supporting families in difficulty, lonely elderly people, orphans and poor students.
Mr. Bui Van Cuong - Secretary of Duc Co District Party Committee informed: "Over the past years, Le Thanh International Border Guard Station has done a good job of advising the Party Committee and the authorities of Ia Nan and Ia Dom communes to carry out political tasks in the area; especially in building the political system in villages and hamlets to ensure effective operations and help the leadership of the Party Committees of the communes become better and better".
Over 50 years of building, fighting and growing up, generations of officers and soldiers of Le Thanh International Border Guard Station have always maintained and promoted the tradition and noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", patriotism, love for socialism, revolutionary spirit of attack, brave and resilient fighting, overcoming all difficulties and challenges to excellently complete all assigned tasks.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Manh Ha - Party Committee Secretary, Political Commissar of Le Thanh International Border Guard Station - said: "The Party Committee and the Station Command have developed a plan and launched a special emulation campaign to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the unit's tradition with the spirit of "3 bests" including: high solidarity and unanimity, promoting the highest sense of responsibility; ready to excellently complete tasks with the highest spirit; democratic solidarity and highest discipline.
Thereby, creating a solid foundation to educate cadres and soldiers in the entire unit to promote tradition and excellently fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State and People".
