Cisco recently revealed a major shift in enterprise network architecture that is already underway. As AI assistants, AI agents, and data-driven workloads reshape how work gets done, they are also creating network traffic that is increasingly fast, dynamic, complex, and latency-sensitive.

Combined with the proliferation of connected devices, the need for 24/7 operations, and increasing security threats, these changes are forcing network infrastructures to adapt and evolve. IT leaders are being forced to rethink the role of the network – not just as an operational tool, but as a strategic element that is shaping the value and long-term viability of the business in the future.

To meet future demands and protect businesses from increasingly sophisticated threats, today's network infrastructure needs to be faster, smarter, and more resilient.

According to Cisco, there are 6 signs that businesses are entering a phase of infrastructure architecture transformation:

Networking becomes a strategic priority: 100% of businesses in Vietnam rate modern networking as a prerequisite for AI, IoT, and cloud deployment. 99% of IT leaders plan to increase the proportion of IT budget allocation to network infrastructure investment.

Network security is vital: 100% believe that network security is important to the operation and growth of their business; 76% believe it is vital. 99% believe that upgrading will enhance their organization's network security.

AI increases the need for resilient networks: 99% of IT leaders say resilient networks are important, especially given that 66% have experienced major outages, mainly due to cyberattacks, congestion, and configuration errors, resulting in global losses of up to $160 billion per year, an average of just one major outage per business.

Leaders expect AI experiences to drive revenue growth: 67% of IT leaders say the biggest impact of a modernized network on revenue will come from deploying AI tools that automate and tailor the customer journey—enabling faster, more personalized customer that strengthens loyalty and drive growth.

AI is reshaping computing infrastructure: 66% say their data centers are currently unable to meet today's AI demands, and 95% plan to expand capacity on-premises, in the cloud, or a combination of both.

Leaders want to make networks smarter: 100% say automated, AI-powered networks are essential for future growth. Yet only 33% have fully deployed intelligent capabilities like network segmentation, visibility, and control – to make their networks resilient.

"As businesses in Vietnam and around the world are leveraging the power of AI, the network is the key platform that helps make all goals come true. To meet future demands and protect businesses from increasingly sophisticated threats, today's network infrastructure needs to be faster, smarter and more resilient. Businesses need to clearly recognize that modernizing their network systems is the key to driving growth and success in the future," said Mr. Nguyen Nhu Dung, General Director of Cisco Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

Networks are a Strategic Asset: Modern Infrastructure Unlocks Growth and Cost Savings

Today, IT leaders are beginning to create tangible business value from their network infrastructure, mainly through improved customer experience (62%), increased operational efficiency (77%), and innovation (53%). However, much of that value will not be sustainable unless the network infrastructure is properly designed for AI or real-time scalability.

To realize their growth potential and expected cost savings, leaders identified critical gaps they must close: fragmented operations (58%), incomplete implementations (46%), and relying on manual monitoring (44%). More intelligent, secure, and adaptive networks provide a compelling business case for investment. Nine in 10 leaders (97%) say network infrastructure improvements will directly drive revenue, and 99% expect to realize real cost savings through operational optimization, outage reduction, and energy use reduction.

Cisco research shows that global CEOs are on par with IT leaders on the importance of infrastructure in the AI era. 97% are expanding their use of AI, and 78% rely on their CIO or CTO to make investment decisions. And they recognize the risks: 74% say outdated infrastructure is holding back their business growth.

As enterprise networks undergo a large-scale transformation, senior management is backing their technology leaders to be at the forefront, and 96% believe trusted partnerships will be critical to success.
