Ho Chi Minh City has identified digital transformation and green transformation as strategic options to develop tourism in a sustainable direction, contributing to environmental protection.

In particular, for a "megacity" like Ho Chi Minh City, implementing digital and green transformation will help improve competitiveness, attract high-quality visitors and create long-term added value, promote innovation, apply technology in destination management, measure emissions and orient responsible tourism consumption.

Digital transformation and green transformation are not only trends but also vital factors to ensure the sustainable development of the tourism industry when transforming digitally; helping the industry improve management efficiency, improve tourist experience and expand market access in a smart and fast way.

These are also two important pillars and strategies that impact the structure, identity and sustainable development direction of the global tourism industry towards the 17 sustainable development criteria of the United Nations.

In her welcoming speech, Ms. Kang Da-eun, Secretary General of the Global Cities Tourism Promotion Organization, said that the discussion theme of this General Assembly aims to affirm the central role of people in the transformation from awareness to drastic and scientific action for sustainable development; emphasizing the companionship of stakeholders including authorities, businesses, communities and tourists in planning and implementing specific actions for the common goal.

According to Ms. Kang Da-eun, TPO is not just an organization but a family of cities and people, united by the belief that tourism is a force for good. “Successful tourism creates a better world,” Ms. Kang Da-eun affirmed.

The 12th TPO General Assembly in Ho Chi Minh City set strategic goals to promote digital transformation in tourism, focusing on the application of modern technologies such as AI, big data, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) to enhance the tourist experience, optimize destination management activities and increase marketing effectiveness.
