Sa Pa Electricity discovered an electricity theft case in Ngu Chi Son commune.

Previously, the officer in charge of losses of Sa Pa Electricity noticed an unusual loss after the Ta Giang Phinh 2 transformer station, Suoi Thau 1 village, Ngu Chi Son commune, so he reported to the unit to send a working group to review all customers using electricity after the above transformer station.

Through on-site inspection, the Inspection Team discovered that Mr. Bui Hong V.'s household residing in Suoi Thau 1 village, Ngu Chi Son commune, Sa Pa town had arbitrarily broken the lead clamp of the meter box, using 2x2.5mm2 PVC wire to connect directly to the 0.4kV grid (wire connection in the meter box), without going through the electricity metering system, with the purpose of lighting at night to serve flower growing. The total equipment includes about 500 incandescent bulbs with a capacity of 10W/bulb and 1 relay, with a setting time from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Immediately after discovering the incident, the working group protected the scene, invited the Ngu Chi Son Commune authorities, Ngu Chi Son Commune Police and the violator to make a record of the work at the scene and a record of the electricity usage inspection. Ngu Chi Son Commune Police made a record of administrative violations against Mr. Bui Hong V.

Mr. Bui Hong V. confessed to the entire incident. Based on the violation record, Sa Pa Electricity has provisionally calculated and recovered the stolen electricity output of about 6,000kWh, equivalent to over 12 million VND, and at the same time transferred the file to the competent authority for further handling according to the provisions of law.

Electricity theft not only causes economic damage, but also poses many potential safety risks, even threatening human life. According to Clause 9, Article 12 of Decree No. 17/2022/ND-CP of the Government, electricity theft worth less than 2 million VND will be subject to an administrative fine of 4 - 20 million VND depending on the level; over 2 million VND will be prosecuted for criminal liability.
