Dien Bien: Installing a street sign named after the late People's Artist Ngo Manh Lan

The road named after the late People's Artist Ngo Manh Lan aims to pay tribute to artists for the country's art, while contributing to improving urban infrastructure and enhancing the appearance of Dien Bien province.

On August 26, the People's Committee of Dien Bien Phu Ward (Dien Bien Province) held a ceremony to name the street Ngo Manh Lan in the ward.

Attending the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy, representatives of the Central Party Office, the Ministry of Public Security ; leaders of Dien Bien province and relatives of the late People's Artist Ngo Manh Lan.

People's Artist Ngo Manh Lan (1934-2021) was born in Thanh Tri district (old), Hanoi city. He was a director, screenwriter, painter, researcher of Vietnamese animation films, and a member of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association. Ngo Manh Lan was one of the Vietnamese film artists listed in the Soviet Cinema Encyclopedia. He created many sketches, oil paintings, cartoons, propaganda posters, stamp covers, book covers, and comics.

He participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign and recorded vivid sketches such as: "Army", "Female militia", "Dien Bien Phu front", "Preparing to attack A1 hill". Currently, the works are being preserved and displayed at the Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum. He left behind hundreds of sketches on the theme of war, including woodcuts, propaganda paintings, comics... serving propaganda and fine arts. He was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist in 1984; promoted to Associate Professor in 1991; and honored as People's Artist in 1997.

The road named after People's Artist Ngo Manh Lan is 310m long and 11.5m wide; the starting point is adjacent to Vo Nguyen Giap Street, the end point is the Road according to the Planning adjacent to Nam Rom River. The road is located right next to the Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum.

On this occasion, Dien Bien province also named 12 other streets in Dien Bien Phu ward after famous artists such as Nguyen Thanh, Nguyen Quang Sang, Vu Ngoc Phan, Tran Huy Lieu, Nguyen Tuan, Nguyen Huy Tuong, Nam Cao, Le Huy Toan, Hoang Dang Vinh, Nguyen Bich, Nguyen Sang and Mai Van Hien.

Naming streets not only honors and pays tribute to the great contributions of artists to the country's literature, art and culture, but also contributes to improving urban infrastructure and enhancing the appearance of Dien Bien province.

This activity also has the meaning of educating traditions, arousing national pride, spreading cultural values ​​in the community, towards the 80th Anniversary of National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025)./.
