At the meeting, the IMF General Director affirmed that Vietnam and ASEAN are bright spots of growth in the global economy , especially in difficult times when the world economy experiences shocks.

The IMF Managing Director believes that the resilience, adaptability and sustained growth of the Vietnamese economy rests on two solid pillars that have been continuously strengthened over the past decades. These are a strong, increasingly complete institution and an approach that prioritizes growth while ensuring inclusiveness in macroeconomic policy making. The IMF Managing Director hopes that Vietnam can share with the IMF the experience and success story of the Vietnamese economy with other countries, especially partners in the African region.

Ms. Kristalina said that throughout Vietnam's development journey, the IMF has always been a good friend and companion in supporting Vietnam to improve the quality of growth. The IMF Managing Director affirmed her commitment to continue supporting Vietnam in realizing its development goals in the coming period through promoting reforms and risk management, aiming to achieve the goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045.

General Secretary and President To Lam congratulated Ms. Kristalina on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the IMF's establishment, highly appreciating the IMF's important role in monitoring the macroeconomic stability of economies, advising countries in building policies to stabilize the financial and monetary systems, reduce poverty, achieve sustainable, balanced, comprehensive economic growth and climate change.

The General Secretary shared that from a backward economy, Vietnam is now among the 40 largest economies in the world and is standing at the beginning of a new era, towards important milestones such as the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 2030 and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the country in 2045.

The General Secretary and President asked the IMF to continue supporting Vietnam in realizing that vision, promoting economic restructuring, renewing the growth model, digital transformation, green transformation and developing new technologies, including artificial intelligence, in conjunction with ensuring social security, hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the spirit of putting people at the center and leaving no one behind.

With new position and strength, the General Secretary and President reaffirmed Vietnam's strong commitment to continue promoting its role and responsibility in solving global issues, for a peaceful and prosperous world.
