Top in many subjects of high school graduation exam 2025
According to statistics from the new Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, after merging with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City has become the largest educational megacity in the country with 2,558,185 students and 3,528 schools. At the same time, this locality also has 121,255 teachers after the merger and 73 universities located in the area. Therefore, the 2025 high school graduation exam results of Ho Chi Minh City are also a topic of great interest.
According to Thanh Nien statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training's exam score data, Ho Chi Minh City is in the top 10 provinces and cities with the highest average scores in 8/12 subjects, but none of them are in the lead. Specifically, in foreign languages, Ho Chi Minh City ranked 2nd with 5,669 points. This is also the highest ranking of this locality. In the remaining subjects, Ho Chi Minh City ranked 3rd (math, economic education and law), 4th (biology), 5th (geography), 6th (history), 8th (information technology) and 10th (literature).

However, if we only count the 10-point scores, Ho Chi Minh City ranks first in the country in physics with 634 exams, although it only ranks 12th in average score. Ho Chi Minh City also has the most 10-point exams in biology (20), but only makes it into the top 10 in English (29 10-point scores, 2nd place), economic and legal education (166, 2nd place), while math (43), chemistry (58), information technology (6) both rank 3rd, history (54), geography (311) both rank 8th.
Notably, Ho Chi Minh City ranked 4th in the country in terms of the number of failing scores (from 1 point or less) with 53 exams, behind Hanoi (105), Hai Phong (Hai Phong, former Hai Duong: 56) and Thanh Hoa (54). Of which, half of Ho Chi Minh City's failing scores came from math with 27 exams, accounting for 0.021% of the total number of candidates in Ho Chi Minh City taking this exam. The locality also had 13 failing scores in literature (0.01%), 5 failing scores in foreign languages (0.008%), 2 failing scores in history (0.006%), 3 failing scores in geography and chemistry (0.009% and 0.008%, respectively).
However, if we only count the zero points, Ho Chi Minh City has a total of 8 exams, 3 in literature, 2 in math, 2 in foreign languages and 1 in history.
Considering the results of each subject in Ho Chi Minh City, 43.2% of math exams scored below 5 points and 6.1% of exams scored 8 points or higher. Subjects with more below average exams than exams with 8 points or higher were foreign languages (30%/7.6%), chemistry (31.7%/17.7%), biology (20.2%/16.1%) and technology - industry (32.4%/16.6%).
On the contrary, in Ho Chi Minh City, literature had 2.7% of exams with scores below 5 points and 21% with scores of 8 or higher, similar to physics (8.1%/29%), information technology (3.5%/35.1%), history (13.6%/23.1%), geography (12.9%/26.7%), technology - agriculture (2.1%/41%), economic and legal education (0.9%/58.1%).
Old Ho Chi Minh City doubled the number of points 10
If counting only the old Ho Chi Minh City, this year's local high school graduation exam had a total of 918 scores of 10, nearly double that of 2024 (463 scores of 10). Of which, the highest number of scores of 10 was in physics (427), geography (183) and history (125); in contrast to last year's trend, foreign languages had the most scores of 10 (149), followed by civic education (116) and chemistry (111). However, the city did not have a score of 10 in 3/12 subjects: literature (this subject also did not have a score of 10 nationwide), technology - industry, technology - agriculture.
Notably, this year the old Ho Chi Minh City had 28 perfect scores in math, while last year there were no perfect scores in this subject.
In terms of each high school graduation exam subject, the old Ho Chi Minh City had 22,686 candidates scoring 8 or higher in literature, double that of 2024 (10,816). However, in math and foreign languages, the numbers were only 6,053 and 4,040 candidates, down 3.4 and 5.8 times compared to last year. Overall, in 2025, the number of candidates in the old Ho Chi Minh City scoring 8 or higher was highest in literature, followed by physics (12,109), and economic and legal education (8,680).
This year, after receiving their high school graduation exam scores, candidates can apply for a review from July 16-25. From July 22, candidates will receive their high school graduation exam results certificate and other relevant certificates for university admission. From July 16 to 5 p.m. on July 28, candidates can register and adjust their wishes an unlimited number of times and pay fees online from July 29 to 5 p.m. on August 5.
Before 5:00 p.m. on August 22, training institutions will notify candidates who have passed the first round of admission and before 5:00 p.m. on August 30, candidates will confirm their admission online for the first round on the Ministry of Education and Training's system.
