Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that tourism is identified as a key economic sector, contributing significantly to job creation, hunger eradication, poverty reduction, investment attraction, growth promotion and economic restructuring, preservation and promotion of traditional, historical and cultural values of the nation, and improvement of the material and spiritual life of the people.
According to the Prime Minister, the world situation has recently changed rapidly, with unusual difficulties and challenges, much more complicated than forecast. In the country, the scale of the economy is still modest, internal strength is not large, resilience and adaptability are limited, and with a large economic openness, it is greatly affected by developments in the world situation. Our country's tourism industry has encountered many difficulties, especially in attracting international tourists.
According to the report of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in the first 10 months of 2023, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached more than 9.97 million , domestic visitors reached 98.7 million . Total revenue from tourists reached 582.6 trillion VND. However, tourism still faces many difficulties and challenges. The number of international tourists in the first 10 months of 2023 was only 69% compared to the same period in 2019. In addition, the tourism industry faces many challenges, especially meeting the increasing demands of the domestic market and competition from countries in the region and internationally.
In Binh Thuan, it is estimated that in 2023, Binh Thuan will welcome about 8.3 million visitors, of which international visitors will reach about 220,000 and domestic visitors will reach about 8,080,000. Total revenue from tourists will be about 19,500 billion VND. Tourism GRDP will reach 9,750 billion VND, accounting for 9.11% of the province's total GRDP. The number of tourists to the province will increase by an average of 16.28% per year, of which international visitors will increase by an average of 2.07 times per year; domestic visitors will increase by an average of 14.8% per year. Total revenue from tourists will increase by an average of 16.56% per year. Binh Thuan has also implemented the construction of the Master Plan for the construction of Mui Ne National Tourist Area to 2040, with a vision to 2050. To develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector of the country, achieving the goal of welcoming at least 35 million international visitors and 120 million domestic visitors by 2025, Vietnamese tourism needs to truly innovate its thinking and approach with creative, innovative, synchronous and effective measures; implementing "close linkage, smooth coordination and comprehensive cooperation".
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the conference to find solutions to short-term and long-term problems; some key issues for the tourism industry to develop quickly and sustainably. It is necessary to identify opportunities and challenges of Vietnam tourism , share successful experiences of countries around the world. Associations, businesses, researchers, experts and each ministry, industry, and locality will discuss and propose breakthrough, specific, feasible solutions to remove difficulties, overcome challenges, take advantage of opportunities, and create favorable conditions for the rapid and sustainable development of Vietnam tourism.
At the conference, the Prime Minister requested to focus on clarifying the contents and requirements on: Tourism development policy mechanisms; resource mobilization, human resource training for tourism; organization and management of tourism development from the national level to units and enterprises; coordination between levels, ministries, branches, units and enterprises in tourism development with emphasis; tourism promotion and advertising work is promoted; digital transformation in tourism is promoted; tourism activities and events take place vibrantly in localities.
At the same time, facilitating international tourists has been identified for many years such as immigration management, electronic visas, unilateral visa exemption duration... Tourism products are renewed, increasing attractiveness and competitiveness. Many new destinations are invested, technical facilities and infrastructure systems serving tourism are improved...
In addition, strengthen regional and industry linkages, public-private partnerships to build products and promote tourism. Strengthen the role of localities in destination management and tourism promotion to overcome seasonal factors, promote international tourist attraction through air, road and sea border gates.
