COMPETITION TO BUILD A STRONG ELDERLY ASSOCIATION

In the 5 years (2020 - 2025), the work of consolidating and perfecting the organization of the Association, building a team of officials of the Association of the Elderly has always been of interest, ensuring sufficient quantity, quality, uniformity and unity from the province to the grassroots. The whole province currently has 197 thousand elderly people, of which more than 173 thousand are members of the Association of the Elderly, the rate of gathering elderly people into the Association is 88%.

Commend and reward exemplary elderly people.

Every year, the Provincial Association of the Elderly at all levels has developed and implemented well the inspection and supervision plan. Thereby, helping the Association of the Elderly continue to promote the achieved results, overcome limitations and shortcomings, contributing to building an increasingly strong Association of the Elderly.

Responding to the movement “Old age - Bright example”, the elderly promote their moral qualities, capacity, intelligence and experience in building cultural families, cultural hamlets and neighborhoods. Many elderly members are shining examples of patriotism, exemplary in implementing the policies of the Party and State, building a cultural life in residential areas, building studious families, maintaining security and order in the locality, and developing the family economy with their children and grandchildren.

In addition, the Provincial Elderly Association at all levels has consulted with local Party committees and authorities to celebrate longevity for the elderly in accordance with the law and in accordance with the customs and practices of each locality, ensuring solemnity, thrift and meaning.

On average, every year, the province has more than 143 thousand elderly people receiving longevity wishes and celebrations. In the past 5 years, the province has had more than 174 thousand people aged 80 and over and more than 55 thousand poor households and people with disabilities receiving monthly social allowances in accordance with regulations...

Regarding health care and spiritual life of the elderly, the Provincial Elderly Association at all levels annually acts as the core in coordinating with the health sector, mobilizing organizations and individuals to create conditions, support, organize health check-ups, and provide free medicine for the elderly.

Accordingly, health consultation, periodic health check-ups, medical treatment, and free medicine were provided to more than 141,000 elderly people; eye disease consultation and screening were provided to more than 44,000 elderly people; eye disease treatment was prescribed for nearly 10,000 elderly people; and cataract surgery was performed on more than 2,600 elderly people. In addition, the Provincial Elderly Association at all levels organized sick visits for 37,300 members and elderly people; and timely emergency assistance was provided to elderly people in difficult circumstances...

During the annual Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam, the Party Committee, the government and the Provincial Elderly Association at all levels organized the Launching and Implementation Ceremony, mobilized resources to support the Fund for Care and Promotion of the Role of the Elderly; organized cultural and artistic exchanges, sports competitions... contributing to helping the elderly live happily, healthily and joyfully.

Cultural, artistic and sports activities have been strongly developed, creating a useful playground for the elderly to live happily, healthily and usefully. Up to now, the whole province has established and maintained 759 elderly clubs with many types such as: health exercises, volleyball, arts, amateur music, poetry, ornamental flowers... attracting 13.1 thousand members and elderly people to participate.

Every year, the Provincial Elderly Association's Representative Board coordinates with units to organize many cultural, artistic, and sports activities, creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere, a useful and meaningful playground, helping the elderly to exercise, meet, exchange, contributing to consolidating and strengthening the solidarity and attachment of members and the elderly.

COMPETITION TO PROMOTE THE ROLE OF THE ELDERLY

Not only are they the subjects of care, the elderly in Tien Giang province are also the core force participating in economic development, maintaining security and order, and building cultural life. Chairman of the Elderly Association of Tien Giang province Nguyen Ngoc Minh said: The Elderly Association at all levels in the province has promoted the role of the elderly.

Over the past 5 years, the number and quality of elderly people participating in social work has increased, with more than 7,600 elderly people participating in the work of the Party, government, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations; more than 39,000 elderly people continue to work in production and business; more than 750 elderly people own businesses, farms, and production facilities, creating jobs for thousands of workers. In addition, more than 12,000 elderly people participate in mass organizations, from self-governing People's Groups to grassroots mediation and education promotion...

Responding to the Campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas", the elderly contributed ideas to build village covenants and conventions, ensuring compliance with the law and good customs in each residential area, which were widely responded to, participated in and well implemented by the people.

Every year, the families of members and the elderly register and 80% - 90% of the families of members and the elderly are recognized as cultural families and achieve the title of "Exemplary grandparents and parents, filial children and grandchildren".

A notable highlight is the expansion of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club (LTHTGN) model - where the elderly not only share and support each other but also act as a bridge to the community and the younger generation. To date, the province has established 357 LTHTGN Clubs with more than 19,000 members, many of whom are elderly members who are supported with production capital and income improvement.

In addition, the model of "Outstanding Elderly People Participating in Building the Grassroots Political System" has shown positive results. In the period of 2019 - 2024, the whole province had 2,743 elderly people recognized for their important contributions to the locality. The provincial conference to honor "Outstanding Elderly People Participating in Building the Grassroots Political System" honored 12 outstanding individuals receiving Certificates of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee.

Thanks to promoting the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example", the Provincial Association of the Elderly has been awarded the Emulation Flag and Certificate of Merit many times by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and the Provincial People's Committee. From 2021 to 2024, the whole province has more than 2,700 collectives and individuals being awarded by the Association of the Elderly at all levels and the government.

With the contributions and shining examples of the elderly, it shows that the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example" not only helps improve the quality of life of the elderly, but also contributes to building an increasingly sustainable and civilized community.

The results that the Provincial Elderly Association at all levels has achieved in recent times have clearly demonstrated the role, position, potential and creativity of cadres, members and the elderly in contributing to the province's successful implementation of socio-economic, national defense and security tasks.
