Training linked to practical needs and international integration
Biotechnology is making powerful breakthroughs in essential fields such as medicine, high-tech agriculture , environmental protection and the food industry. These advances contribute to solving urgent problems such as food security, climate change, biodiversity conservation and public health care.
In response to the urgent need for human resources with deep expertise, solid practical skills and flexible adaptability, Thai Nguyen University of Education has developed an integrated, multidisciplinary training program in Applied Biology, updated with international trends and closely linked with businesses and research institutes.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tu Quang Tan – Vice Principal of the school shared: “We are committed to investing heavily in Applied Biology – from modern facilities and equipment to a team of high-quality lecturers. The goal is to create an advanced learning environment where students can learn in conjunction with practice, comprehensively develop professional skills and innovation capacity.”

The Bachelor of Applied Biology program lasts 4 years with 130 credits, designed to integrate theoretical knowledge and in-depth practice. Students are exposed to key areas such as molecular biology, microbiology, gene technology, genetics, ecology and interdisciplinary subjects.
In particular, the program allows you to choose 1 of 4 specialized orientations that are suitable for scientific development trends and national strategies:
- Applied Biology in Medicine: Application of biotechnology in diagnosis, treatment, production of pharmaceuticals and medical biological products.
- Applied Biology in Food and Livestock: Serving safe production, nutrition and sustainable development.
- Applied Biology in Clean Agriculture and Green Transformation: Focus on biotechnology for the environment, productivity improvement and climate change adaptation.
- Applied Biology in Biodiversity Conservation: Contributing to the preservation of natural resources and the development of sustainable livelihoods.
These training orientations are built on the basis of national strategic orientations on biotechnology development such as Decision 2117/QD-TTg (2021) and 569/QD-TTg (2022), to meet practical needs and sustainable development of the country in the new era.
Dedicated faculty, modern facilities
The Faculty of Biology currently has a team of experienced and highly qualified lecturers, including 1 Professor, 11 Associate Professors and 6 PhDs. They are the core force ensuring the quality of training, research and guiding students to access new knowledge.
Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Mau - former Head of the Biology Department, affirmed: "The Applied Biology program provides a solid foundation for students to gradually master modern biotechnology techniques such as gene technology, cell technology, molecular biology and bioinformatics. Students practice directly with advanced equipment, participate in research and technology transfer."
With a long-term development strategy, the Faculty of Biology has invested in developing its teaching staff, with 100% of lecturers having doctoral degrees, of which the proportion of professors and associate professors is over 66%; invested in building a synchronous laboratory system, experimental gardens to serve teaching and research, and expanded cooperation with leading research institutes and large enterprises.
With the training cooperation between the University of Education, Thai Nguyen University and leading biological research institutes, domestic and international production corporations, students majoring in Applied Biology of the Faculty of Biology have the opportunity to intern at research institutes, biotechnology corporations and enterprises, testing centers, medical facilities, high-tech agriculture in and outside the country - helping to enhance professional skills and practical connections. After graduation, Bachelors of Applied Biology can work at these production facilities.
After graduating from Applied Biology, students can work at: Research institutes on biotechnology, conservation, biomedicine, food; Enterprises producing agriculture, pharmaceuticals, biological products; Large domestic and international joint venture manufacturing corporations. Testing centers, laboratories, hospitals, technology companies; Educational institutions, or continue to study for master's and doctoral degrees domestically and abroad.

The school also regularly organizes academic exchange activities, specialized clubs, and creative competitions - supporting students to comprehensively develop professional skills and soft skills.
The cost of studying and living in Thai Nguyen is reasonable, especially suitable for students in the midlands and mountainous areas of the North - helping them pursue their passion without facing too many financial barriers.
Applied Biology is not only a professional training program, but also a journey to explore life, contributing to creating new values for society. This is an ideal choice for young people who love life sciences and want to contribute to the fields of medicine, agriculture, biotechnology and environmental protection.
With a foundation of scientific – practical – integrated training, the Applied Biology program at the University of Education, Thai Nguyen University is opening the door to the world of modern biotechnology – contributing to the formation of a generation of young experts with qualifications, courage and aspiration to contribute to the sustainable development of the country.
