The famous Nguyen Dinh Chieu was born on July 1, 1822 in Tan Thoi village, Binh Duong district, Gia Dinh province (now Cau Kho ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City). When the three eastern provinces fell into the hands of the French, refusing to live in the enemy-occupied area, he and his family sailed to An Duc village, Bao An commune, Vinh Long province (now Ba Tri district, Ben Tre province). Here, he continued to teach, prescribe medicine to treat people, and at the same time maintained close ties with patriotic scholars and resistance forces.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chieu spent nearly 30 years fighting with the people of Ba Tri district in particular and Ben Tre province in general. He was a patriotic poet and teacher who fought against the enemy without compromise with his sharp pen. He died on July 3, 1888 and was laid to rest in An Duc commune, Ba Tri district.
Students and local people came to visit and offer incense to pay tribute to the famous person Nguyen Dinh Chieu.

Accordingly, many activities have taken place every year to honor the ideological values and moral character of a poet, teacher, and physician who devoted his life to the people, devoting his talent and intelligence to serving the people and the country.
