Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili confirmed on October 27 that the ruling Georgian Dream party had won 90 out of 150 seats after more than 99% of votes from polling stations were counted in the country's parliamentary election.

"With more than 99% of the votes counted, Georgian Dream is projected to win 54%, or up to 90 seats in the 150-seat parliament, a 44% lead over its nearest rival," Papuashvili wrote on X.

Earlier in the day, Georgia's Central Election Commission said that with votes from 99% of polling stations counted, the ruling Georgian Dream party won 54.2% of the vote in the country's parliamentary elections, while the opposition received about 37%.

Earlier, both the ruling party and opposition groups claimed victory, each presenting different poll numbers. Accordingly, three polls showed the opposition would win a majority, while another poll predicted the ruling Georgian Dream party would win easily.

Under Georgia's electoral system, whichever party wins at least half of the votes wins half of the 150 seats in parliament.

The ruling Georgian Dream party is facing an unprecedented alliance of four pro-Western opposition forces, which have pledged to form a coalition government to oust the ruling party and put Georgia back on the path to EU membership.

Although Georgia gained EU candidate status last December, the EU suspended the process due to “democratic backsliding” and the adoption of a “foreign agent” law targeting organisations funded by the West.
