Thai army generally appreciates Vietnam's 'four no' defense policy

On July 4, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense , General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense, presided over the welcoming ceremony for General Songwit Nunphakdee, Commander of the Thai Defense Forces, and a high-ranking military delegation from the Royal Thai Army on an official visit to Vietnam.

At the talks after the welcoming ceremony, the two sides discussed the world and regional situation and affirmed that defense cooperation is one of the important pillars in the Vietnam - Thailand comprehensive strategic partnership.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong emphasized the important role of ASEAN in shaping and maintaining the regional security structure, promoting substantive cooperation among member countries, as well as between ASEAN and its partners.

In particular, Vietnam consistently implements a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace , friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations, and perseveres with the "four no's" defense policy.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the Deputy Minister of National Defense emphasized Vietnam's consistent stance of persistently fighting to resolve all disputes and disagreements by peaceful means on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; international and regional undertakings such as the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC)...

General Nguyen Tan Cuong affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to cooperative relations with ASEAN countries, including Thailand, for the sake of peace, stability and development of the region and the world. He suggested that in the coming time, the two sides continue to increase delegation exchanges at all levels; effectively promote existing cooperation mechanisms; promote substantive and effective cooperation between military branches and services, especially law enforcement forces at sea; and support each other at multilateral mechanisms, forums and international events organized by each side.

At the talks, General Songwit Nunphakdee highly appreciated Vietnam's "four no's" defense policy. He hoped that in the coming time, the two sides would continue to maintain and promote the agreed cooperation contents.

The focus is on defense industry cooperation, contributing to making the Vietnam-Thailand defense cooperation relationship increasingly effective, in-depth, and substantive.

Vietnam builds its national defense strength based on the combined strength of the whole country, of the great national unity bloc, of the entire political system under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the unified management and administration of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; consolidating and strengthening the great national unity bloc.

Vietnam's defense policy is peaceful and self-defensive in nature; resolutely and persistently fighting to resolve all disputes and disagreements by peaceful means on the basis of international law; actively and proactively preventing and repelling the risk of war, implementing the motto of protecting the Fatherland early and from afar, and being ready to fight against aggressive wars.

Vietnam advocates not participating in military alliances; not aligning with one country to fight another; not allowing foreign countries to set up military bases or use Vietnamese territory to fight against other countries; do not use force or threaten to use force in international relations.
