More than 5,000 athletes participated in the international marathon held in the new Can Tho city.

On the evening of July 5, at Vi Tan Ward, Can Tho City (formerly Vi Thanh City, Hau Giang Province), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City held the opening ceremony of the 6th Vietcombank Mekong Delta Marathon International Marathon in 2025. Five seasons ago, the tournament was successfully held in Hau Giang (old).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, said that the Mekong Delta International Marathon is the first running tournament held in the Mekong Delta in 2019. After 5 seasons of the organization, the number of athletes has increased each year, the quality has been increasingly improved, affirming the stature and significance of the tournament at home and abroad. This year, the tournament had 5,000 athletes registered to participate in 4 distances: 5 km, 10 km, 21 km and 42 km.

formation, the tournament is one of the activities to celebrate the establishment of the new Can Tho City, after the merger of Can Tho City, Hau Giang, Soc Trang . This is both a playground, a motivation, and a source of inspiration for all classes of people from urban to rural areas, of all ages to participate in running, continuing to respond to the mass movement to exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho.
