Danang Asian Film Festival develops in scale, content and quality

After a week, the 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival concluded with a closing night and awards ceremony to honor outstanding works, artists, and filmmakers of Vietnamese and regional cinema.
The closing ceremony and award ceremony of DANAF F III were attended by Mr. Mai Van Chinh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister; Mr. Pham Dai Duong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee; Mr. Le Hai Binh - Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Ms. Dinh Thi Mai - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee. In addition, the event gathered many artists, filmmakers, and film experts from Vietnam and many Asian countries: Korea, Japan, India, Thailand, Philippines...

Speaking at the conclusion of the 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan commented: "What happened at DANAFF III shows development in terms of scale, program content and professional quality. The total number of films screened in DANAFF III is up to 106 compared to 46 films at DANAFF I, 63 films at DANAFF II; the number of film screenings is up to 200 compared to 100 at last season; a newly opened film program is Panorama of Asian Cinema".
The Chairman of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development shared more: "In addition to the award categories that were present in the previous two seasons, such as the Asian Film Competition Award, the Vietnamese Film Competition Award, the NETPAC Award and the Audience Award for the Vietnam Cinema Today program. At DANAFF III, for the first time, there was the Critics' Award for Outstanding Asian Film in the Panorama of Asian Cinema program. Notably, DANAFF III premiered 11 films internationally for the first time, affirming the prestige of the festival when filmmakers chose to entrust their 'newborn children'!".
'Sister-in-law' wins big in the Vietnamese Film Competition category
During the award ceremony, the jury of DANAFF III selected worthy works, artists, and filmmakers for each award category in two main areas: Vietnamese Film Competition and Asian Film Competition.

Sister-in -law, directed by Khuong Ngoc, was the most nominated Vietnamese film of the night. The film, starring Viet Huong, Hong Dao, Le Khanh, Ngoc Trinh, etc., won the first NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Award for Best Vietnamese Film. The film also helped Viet Huong be honored as Best Actress. Immediately after, the trio Toto Chan, Kim and Khuong Ngoc also won the Best Screenplay category.
Finally, Sister D received the most anticipated award: Best Film. Sharing after receiving consecutive awards at DANAFF III, Khuong Ngoc said this was an honor, a great gift for his career journey. "From the beginning, I told my colleagues to try to make a film that both ensures artistic value and entertainment value. People used to not believe me and said it was very difficult. Now I have done it," said this filmmaker.

In addition to the spectacular victory of Sister-in -law, the Vietnamese Film Competition also honored Tuan Tran in the category of Best Actor. The male lead of Getting Rich with Ghosts was surprised and happy when he surpassed Huynh Lap ( House of Ancestors ) and Quoc Huy ( Detective Kien: Headless Case ) to win this meaningful award. He expressed his gratitude to director Trung Lun, the film crew and actors who contributed to giving him the opportunity to stand on the DANAFF III stage.
"Today, I am really lucky. This is not only an honor for me but also for those who have accompanied me... I thank the judges, the organizers and the entire audience for giving me a huge source of energy and spiritual strength so that I can try even harder for my next roles," Tuan Tran shared.

Meanwhile, Victor Vu was honored in the category of Outstanding Director with the film Detective Kien: Headless Case . On the award stage, the filmmaker thanked his colleagues and the cast who contributed to the success of the work. "Stories about Vietnamese culture and people have always been a great source of inspiration for me. This is a great motivation for me and the crew to try to bring stories like this to film," he expressed.
The crew of the film Trang Quynh nhi: The Legend of Kim Nguu on stage received the special award.

In addition, the animated film Trang Quynh nhi: The legend of Kim Nguu surpassed Chi dau, Detective Kien: The headless case, Ngay xua co mot chuyen tinh and Nha gia tien to win the Special Jury Prize. The film De men won the category of Most favorite Vietnamese film by the audience.
'Rain on the Butterfly' honored in the Asian Film Competition
Rain on the Butterfly Wings - a rare Vietnamese film competing in the Asian Film category, received the Special Jury Prize. On stage, director Duong Dieu Linh recalled her relationship with Da Nang when she returned to Vietnam to pursue art 10 years ago and expressed her gratitude to the film crew that accompanied her.
"I would like to dedicate this award with deep gratitude to the film's cast, crew and especially to the seniors and uncles in the profession who opened their arms in the first days I returned to Vietnam and guided me on the very long journey to get to where I am today," the young female director shared.
In addition, the Best Screenplay category was awarded to the duo Ladan Shirmard, Ebrahim Azizi ( Muddy Foot ). Urzhan Beksultanova ( Abel of the cinema ). Kazakhstan) won the Best Actress award while Kang Sheng Lee ( Singapore, Taiwan's Stranger Eyes ) was named Best Actor. The Chinese film Black Dog helped Guan Hu win Best Director. The most important category of the night was Best Film, which went to Deal at the Border from the Kyrgyz Republic.
