According to information from Bac Giang General Hospital, a 51-year-old female patient (address in Nghia Trung, Viet Yen) was admitted to the hospital on April 4 with difficulty breathing, drowsiness, difficulty speaking, and weakness on the left side of her body.

The results of the CT scan of the brain showed an image of a blockage in the right middle cerebral artery, segment M1. In particular, when performing an emergency ECG at the bedside and an echocardiogram, the doctors discovered arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation and severe heart failure (EF = 36%), although the patient had never previously been diagnosed with heart disease.

Doctors quickly consulted with cerebrovascular intervention specialists at 108 Military Central Hospital to analyze the patient's condition and provide appropriate treatment.

The female patient recovered well after the intervention.

Surprisingly, during the time the doctors were consulting, the patient made good progress, recovered on his own and was almost completely paralyzed, and continued to be monitored at the hospital.

At 2:30 p.m. the same day, the patient had a second stroke with paralysis on the left side of his body. Two teams of doctors immediately performed emergency surgery to remove the blood clot, re-open the blood vessels in the brain, and save the patient's life.

After the intervention, the results of the assessment showed that the blocked cerebral blood vessels were well-cleared, completely releasing the right middle cerebral artery thrombus. Currently, the patient is conscious, responsive, no longer paralyzed and was transferred to the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology for further treatment.

According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, Deputy Head of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Head of the Cerebrovascular Intervention Team, Bac Giang Provincial General Hospital, people with cardiovascular diseases (arrhythmia, coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation) have a high risk of stroke, need to proactively screen for stroke periodically to avoid stroke, affecting health and life.
