Diogo Jota's Last Call

Portuguese media revealed that Diogo Jota called his best friend just hours before passing away after a horrific car crash.

Jota is very close to Gondomar SC Club President, Mr. Alvaro Cerqueira.

Mr. Alvaro Cerqueira - President of Gondomar SC Club, Jota's first team, said he talked to Jota at 10 pm, less than 3 hours before the accident happened.

"We call each other often. He is very happy, his voice is completely normal. Whenever Jota needs to train during the summer break, he always asks to go to Gondomar, the club is always ready to support. Andre also often goes with his brother. It is difficult to put into words at this time, just know that Jota and Andre are humble people. This loss leaves a huge void," he shared with JN .

Jota's funeral was held on Saturday morning in Gondomar, his hometown near Porto, where he started his career at the age of 17 before moving to Pacos de Ferreira. The Gondomar city council also decided to fly flags at half-mast for a day in memory of the brothers.

According to initial investigations, the Lamborghini carrying the two brothers had a tire blowout while overtaking another vehicle on the A52. The car lost control, caught fire and was quickly engulfed in flames. Witnesses immediately called an ambulance, but rescuers could only confirm that both Jota and Andre had died.

Jota just married his long-time girlfriend Rute Cardoso on June 22. The news of Jota's death shocked the entire football world . Coach Arne Slot, captain Virgil van Dijk and many Liverpool players sent emotional condolences.
