According to some sources, Cong Phuong suffered a relapse of his ankle injury and missed the training session of the Vietnam National Team today, March 17. The Nghe An striker suffered this injury while still at his parent club Yokohama FC.

Cong Phuong suffered an injury just one day before the Vietnam national team finalized the list of 28 players to go to Indonesia. The recurrence of the injury, although not serious, will significantly affect Cong Phuong's chances of playing, first of all, the away match against Indonesia on March 21.

According to the plan, on the evening of March 18, Coach Philippe Troussier will finalize the team list from 33 to 28 players. Thus, the Vietnam team will eliminate 5 players before leaving for Indonesia.

In the archipelago, coach Philippe Troussier and his team will have two training sessions before entering the decisive match against the Indonesian team at Bung Karno Stadium at 8:30 p.m. on March 21. After that, the two teams will play again at My Dinh Stadium at 7:00 p.m. on March 26.

Currently, Vietnam is ranked second in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with 3 points after beating the Philippines 2-0 and losing 0-1 to Iraq. Meanwhile, Indonesia lost 1-5 to Iraq and only got 1 point from a 1-1 draw with the Philippines.
