“AI technology researched by Vietnamese people to serve Vietnamese people”

Việt NamViệt Nam17/10/2024

Le Duy Khanh, a talented young engineer of Zalo AI, has just completed a speech introducing his scientific topic at the Interspeech Scientific Conference taking place in Greece from September 1-5, 2024.

With the topic " Improving Streaming Speech Recognition With Time-Shifted Contextual Attention And Dynamic Right Context Masking", the research work of the engineer born in 2000 and his colleagues will contribute significantly to upgrading speech recognition models, increasing the accuracy of voice dictation and voice-to-text on Zalo application.

This research also aims to provide more context to the speech recognition model, similar to “seeing into” the future, thereby significantly improving accuracy without increasing latency. This is a major difference from previous studies.

This is the first time I have had the opportunity to present at a world- leading scientific conference in the field of technology in general and the field of speech processing in particular. This is the motivation for me to continue pursuing the path of AI development, contributing to Zalo AI's research ”, Duy Khanh shared. Khanh's presentation at the conference went quite smoothly with more than 100 people watching. After finishing the presentation, Khanh received 2 questions about algorithms and processing speed. This year's Interspeech International Conference brought together the participation of a series of leading technology companies in the world such as Microsoft, Meta, ... In addition, more than 2,000 conference presentations and new research on the field of AI were also presented by engineers, technology and AI researchers from all over the world.

The fact that Vietnamese engineers' research topics are internationally recognized is a positive signal for Vietnam's young AI industry.

Participating in this Interspeech is not only a personal milestone but also a motivation for me to strive to bring AI technology closer to Vietnamese users. For young engineers like us in particular and the Vietnamese AI technology industry in general to develop, investing in research is necessary. Doing AI always requires research, and if we only use available technology from other companies, it will be difficult to go far, ” Duy Khanh shared.

Since starting its AI research journey in 2017, Zalo has always believed in young talents like Duy Khanh. Currently, 31% of Zalo employees belong to the GenZ generation. This is also not the first time Zalo AI engineers have had scientific articles recognized internationally. In 2021, two other research topics were also recognized at the Asia- Pacific International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (PRICAI 2021).
