The above viewpoint was stated by the General Director of VOV at the Sustainable Consumption 2025 forum with the theme "Sustainable consumption towards a green era" held this afternoon (July 2) in Hanoi .
Accordingly, Mr. Do Tien Sy stated that consumer behavior is identified as one of the strongest driving forces behind the transition to sustainable production, thereby creating a "green era".
Recognizing the importance of sustainable production and consumption value chains, in recent years, the Vietnamese Government has prioritized the development and promulgation of a comprehensive legal framework and policies to encourage and facilitate sustainable production.
This has contributed to diversifying the supply of green products on the market, creating the premise for people to practice sustainable consumption.
On the other hand, although we have witnessed positive changes in consumer awareness and actions, the level, scale and scope of sustainable consumption practices in Vietnam still face many significant challenges and limitations. Closing the gap between awareness and behavior, as well as expanding the market for sustainable products, remains an urgent task.
The forum "Sustainable consumption towards a green era" discussed in depth two strategic and essential topics in the current development context.
The first is "Green Technology - The Key to Sustainable Production and Consumption". Green science and technology are considered the "key" to help businesses open the door to the "green era". Technology is not only a "magic wand" that helps businesses optimize the efficiency of resource use and minimize environmental impacts, but also enhances information transparency, product traceability, saves operating costs, and improves productivity and competitiveness.
"However, the current problem for businesses, especially small and medium enterprises, is how to access and effectively apply green technology. This requires support solutions to ensure that technology is deployed in accordance with the capacity and scale of the business, while keeping up with modern production and business trends," said Mr. Sy.
The second theme is “Information Transparency – The Foundation for Consumer Protection”. In an increasingly diverse market with countless choices, being well-informed is key to helping consumers make responsible and sustainable purchasing decisions.
This theme was chosen to affirm consumers’ right to information and thereby clearly define the responsibility of businesses in providing honest information, contributing to building trust and creating a fair and healthy market. Transparency in product information not only protects consumers’ rights but is also an effective tool to distinguish sustainable products, thereby guiding and encouraging responsible consumption.
"We believe that the diversity of participants and the profound professional experiences of the speakers, along with the content of the exchange with the audience, will help the forum have a more comprehensive view, thereby proposing the most practical and effective solutions for the sustainable transformation process," said the VOV General Director.
In his closing speech, Dr. Ta Dinh Thi - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Science, Technology and Environment - commented: The exhibition "Promoting sustainable production and consumption" held from June 27 to 29 in Hanoi was successfully organized with very impressive numbers: 50 booths with 30 participating businesses, displaying typical products such as: bamboo handicrafts, plant-based cleaning products, biodegradable packaging, banana fiber fashion, and solar energy models; Attracting more than 10,000 direct visitors and 30,000 online views.
" The forum "Sustainable consumption towards a green era" has ended, but this is just the beginning of the journey to realize the "green era". I suggest that the Organizing Committee soon synthesize the report and send it to the competent authorities to turn the discussion into specific policies and actions. With the cooperation of the whole society, we can completely build a Vietnam with sustainable development, balancing between economy and environment ", Mr. Thi emphasized.
The 2025 Sustainable Consumption Forum with the theme "Sustainable consumption towards a green era" was organized by the National Competition Commission, the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion (Ministry of Industry and Trade) in collaboration with the Voice of Vietnam Electronic Newspaper (Voice of Vietnam Radio), as part of the event series "Promoting sustainable production and consumption in 2025" under the National Action Program on sustainable production and consumption for the period 2021-2030.
In the context of increasingly complex climate change and the gradual depletion of natural resources, "greening" production and consumption is no longer an option but has become an inevitable trend. Campaigns to plant hundreds of thousands of trees, convert to renewable energy, reduce plastic waste... are clear evidence of businesses' efforts on the journey of sustainable development.
However, green production is posing significant challenges for businesses. The huge initial investment costs, along with strict production processes and high requirements for raw materials, make many units hesitant. Therefore, many businesses only dare to experiment with green products on a small scale, although this is an inevitable trend, especially when targeting the export market. The most important issue today is the application of advanced technology, green technology at appropriate costs into production to create environmentally friendly products.
In recent years, Vietnam has deeply participated and strongly committed to the international community on environmental protection action programs, especially solving the problem of moving towards a low-carbon economy while achieving outstanding growth rates.
This contributes to promoting the commitment at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) to bring net emissions to "zero" by 2050. To realize these commitments, it is necessary to have the joint action of each individual, organization, and business, along with an implementation roadmap from the Government and the entire political system.
