According to the World Health Organization (WHO), adolescents are a special, vulnerable population group, lacking adequate knowledge about reproductive health, especially in the context of modern society with many impacts from media, technology, and lifestyle. In Vietnam in general, and Quang Ninh province in particular, a segment of adolescents still do not have full access to information about safe sex, pregnancy prevention measures, and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. Aware of this, in recent times, the Quang Ninh Health sector has synchronously implemented adolescent reproductive health care programs with the motto of focusing oneducation and communication, taking a friendly approach as a solution, and taking the comprehensive development of the young generation as a goal. Since the beginning of 2025, the provincial Health sector has organized nearly 460 communication sessions on reproductive health care for over 21,400 students, youth, and adolescents at secondary schools, high schools, and the community.
Doctor Nguyen Thu Huong (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital) said: The hospital's departments regularly hold consultation sessions to improve knowledge of adolescent reproductive health care with very familiar topics, such as changes in the body during puberty, sexually transmitted diseases, safe contraception methods... From there, children are equipped with a lot of useful knowledge, have the right orientation, build a healthy lifestyle, contributing to improving the quality of life.
Vang Danh Ward Youth Union integrates the dissemination of adolescent reproductive knowledge into summer activities.
At schools and educational institutions, schools coordinate with health units to regularly organize communication and reproductive health education activities in the form of extracurricular activities, sharing forums, exchanges, juvenile clubs, community groups, etc. Thereby helping students gain more knowledge about health, psychology, and skills to build healthy and safe relationships.
Adolescent reproductive health care also has the participation of the Department of Population and Family Planning (now the Department of Population, Department of Health). Since 2011, the Department has maintained and expanded pre-marital clubs in localities. At the same time, it has coordinated with social organizations, schools, and youth unions to organize mobile counseling sessions and reproductive health communication programs in remote areas and ethnic minority areas, to ensure fairness in accessing reproductive health information for adolescents and young people in these areas.
The Department of Education and Training organized a forum for ethnic minority students to say no to early marriage and incestuous marriage at Hoanh Mo Secondary and High School, September 2023.
Implementing the Project "Reducing child marriage and consanguineous marriage in ethnic minority areas", from 2021 to present, the Ethnic Minority Committee (now the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions) has organized nearly 10 Forums "Ethnic minority students say no to child marriage and consanguineous marriage" at a number of ethnic boarding and semi-boarding schools. At the same time, 79 "Prevention of child marriage and consanguineous marriage" clubs have been maintained in communes and wards. Thereby contributing to adolescent reproductive health care and improving population quality.
Adolescent reproductive health care is a long-term task that requires the cooperation of the whole society. With political determination, right-directed investment, creative approaches and proactive adaptation, Quang Ninh is gradually building a safe, healthy and friendly environment, helping adolescents to be fully equipped with knowledge, skills and confidence to enter life with a strong physical, mental and moral foundation.
