On October 16, according to news from the People's Committee of Nam Dong district (Thua Thien Hue province), this year's areca crop brought high income to areca farmers in the district.
Because fresh areca nuts are purchased by traders at high prices, it can be said to be the highest ever in the province.

Currently, the total area of areca trees in Nam Dong district is about 200 hectares, of which the area of areca trees currently producing fresh fruit is about 150 hectares.
Areca trees are grown mainly in the communes of Huong Loc, Huong Hoa, Huong Phu, Khe Tre town and some other communes of Nam Dong district, Thua Thien Hue province.
Fresh areca nuts in Nam Dong district are currently being purchased by traders at prices ranging from 60,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, much higher than last year.
With the current selling price of fresh areca nuts, in 2024, areca farmers in Nam Dong district will have a total income of about 100 billion VND.
In recent years, areca nut has been one of the crops that brings stable income to farmers in the mountainous district of Nam Dong.
To improve the economic efficiency of areca trees, the People's Committee of Nam Dong district, Thua Thien Hue province has directed the district's agricultural sector to organize training on areca planting techniques for farmers; techniques to prevent root fungus, beetles that eat young areca shoots, and yellow leaf disease in areca trees.
The agricultural sector of Nam Dong district was also assigned to implement plans to expand the consumption market for fresh areca nuts in the area.
