"Hemorrhoids are on the rise and getting younger rapidly. In particular, office workers, those who often sit for long periods of time and have little exercise, are the group at highest risk," Dr. Ta Anh Tuan, Director of a hospital, shared on the sidelines of the conference on Applying Laser Technology to Treat Hemorrhoids, which took place on June 25 in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to doctors, modern lifestyles that make people less active, eating habits lacking in fiber, and drinking little water are the main causes of hemorrhoids.
In addition, some other living habits such as drinking a lot of alcohol, using stimulants or eating spicy foods also increase pressure on the anal area, stimulate the intestines, and cause difficulty in defecation.
"These factors lead to an increasing rate of hemorrhoids, especially among office workers. Due to the nature of their work, they often have little exercise, sit for long periods of time, and change their living habits, making the rate of hemorrhoids in this group very high," Dr. Tuan explained.

Hemorrhoids in the early stages often only cause mild discomfort such as itching, burning pain or slight bleeding when defecating. Because it does not seriously affect life, many people tend to be subjective and do not go to the doctor or get treatment early.
However, when the disease progresses to stage 2 or 3, symptoms such as hemorrhoid prolapse, prolonged pain or infection become evident, seriously affecting the quality of life.
The feeling of burning pain, bleeding, or hemorrhoid prolapse not only makes patients uncomfortable in daily activities but also leads to insomnia, reduced concentration at work and reduced work efficiency.
In severe cases, hemorrhoids can cause complications such as infection or anal blockage, requiring more complex medical intervention.
Currently, hemorrhoid treatment methods have made great progress thanks to the application of modern medical technology. Among them, laser surgery is considered a breakthrough.
This method has the advantages of being minimally invasive, minimizing damage to surrounding tissue, ensuring patient safety; the rate of complications such as infection or anal obstruction is very low.
In addition, the surgery only lasts from 30 to 60 minutes, and patients can return to normal activities just one day after being discharged from the hospital.
To reduce the risk of hemorrhoids and prevent recurrence, Dr. Tuan recommends that people, especially office workers, should increase physical activity, limit sitting for long periods, and do light exercise to improve blood circulation.
People need to supplement foods rich in fiber (green vegetables, fruits), drink enough water, limit spicy foods, beer and alcohol, and have regular health check-ups to detect and treat diseases early (if any).
Patients who have had surgery should maintain a follow-up appointment schedule for advice on care and lifestyle changes.
