As one of the localities with a long coastline and abundant seafood resources, Ha Tinh has long formed and developed many coastal craft villages, especially the traditional fish sauce processing craft. In recent years, thanks to rural economic development support programs, especially the OCOP program, fish sauce craft villages have continuously grown, both increasing economic value and contributing to the renewal of tourism products.
Summer is the peak season for beach tourism in Ha Tinh, and it is also the time when traditional fish sauce villages in the communes and wards of Thien Cam, Hai Ninh, Ky Khang, etc. become favorite destinations for tourists, especially groups of tourists from Hanoi and the northern provinces.
Fish sauce production facilities such as: Luan Nghiep (Hai Ninh ward), Phu Sang (Thien Cam commune), Thu Hung (Thien Cam commune), Phu Khuong (Ky Xuan commune)... are always crowded with tourists. Tourists coming to Ha Tinh not only come to relax but also visit fish sauce production facilities to learn about the production process, experience the space of the craft village and buy bottles of pure fish sauce as gifts.
Ms. Ho Thi Thu - Thu Hung fish sauce facility (Thien Cam commune) shared: “During the tourist season, many tourists come to visit. They want to see the production process with their own eyes, smell the aroma of fish sauce in earthenware jars before deciding to buy. Every day, we sell hundreds of liters of fish sauce and also receive orders from other provinces to transport to their doorstep.”
Like Ms. Thu, Mr. Hoang Van Minh - owner of Khoan Minh fish sauce facility (Hai Ninh ward) said that the facility is focusing on increasing production to meet the increasing demand from tourists.
Ha Tinh traditional fish sauce is attractive not only because of its rich flavor but also because of the meticulous manual processing process, inherited from hundreds of years ago. The raw materials are fresh anchovies caught from the sea, combined with white salt, fermented in earthenware jars, and exposed to natural sunlight for months. This method helps to preserve the natural flavor and color of the fish sauce, does not use preservatives, and ensures food hygiene and safety.
Mr. Tran Xuan Hung, a tourist from Hanoi, said: “We came here to see and saw that Thu Hung facility (Thien Cam commune) produces very professionally and hygienically, especially fish sauce, so we bought some to eat. If it is delicious, we will introduce it to our brothers and friends when they come to Thien Cam.”
The development of sea tourism in Ha Tinh in recent years has also led to the "prosperity" of traditional craft villages. In Thien Cam, in addition to relaxation and swimming, tourists have more options for experiences when hotels, restaurants and craft villages coordinate to create sightseeing and shopping tours. In particular, the electric car service has been deployed, making travel between tourist areas and craft villages easier, safer and more environmentally friendly. Mr. Nguyen Huy Truong - an electric car driver said: "During the tourist season, I take more than 10 trips of passengers to craft villages every day. I have a stable job and also support the promotion of local products."
It is known that many fish sauce products in Ha Tinh have now achieved 3-star and 4-star OCOP standards, creating a foundation for business owners to boldly approach a larger market. In addition, they have also gradually learned how to market, sell online, livestream to promote products and participate in trade fairs and seminars. This is an inevitable direction to enhance the position of craft villages and affirm the Ha Tinh fish sauce brand on the map of Vietnamese cuisine.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Giang - Deputy Director of Ha Tinh Provincial Police Guesthouse commented: "Tourists are increasingly interested in cultural experiences, especially traditional handicraft products. The connection between craft villages and tourism not only helps us attract more visitors but also spreads the value of our homeland to friends everywhere."
