Timely rescue of 34 people on a sunken ship in Thien Cam sea

A boat carrying 30 tourists and 4 crew members was sunk by waves while fishing for squid in Thien Cam sea (Thien Cam commune, Ha Tinh province) on the evening of July 19. Authorities promptly rescued and brought all 34 people safely to shore.

On the morning of July 20, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Khoi, Head of Thien Cam Border Guard Station ( Ha Tinh Provincial Border Guard) said that at around 7:20 p.m. on July 19, the weather in the sea area of Thien Cam commune suddenly had thunderstorms and heavy rain, causing many boats to not be able to take shelter in time.

At that time, the tourist boat Nguyen Ngoc owned by Mr. NTH was anchored for squid fishing when it was unfortunately sunk by waves in the area of Boc Island, about 0.5 nautical miles from the coast of Thien Cam. At the time of the accident, there were 4 crew members and 30 tourists on the boat participating in a squid fishing tour. When the boat sank, all passengers and crew members wore life jackets and jumped into the sea to wait for rescue.

Immediately after receiving the news, Thien Cam Border Guard Station quickly deployed forces, coordinated with Thien Cam commune authorities to mobilize large tonnage ships operating near the sunken ship to approach the scene and conduct rescue operations. However, the rescue work encountered many difficulties because the incident occurred at night, with heavy rain and big waves.

Upon reaching the scene, all passengers had jumped into the sea. After being rescued, everyone had to take shelter on Boc Island. At around 0:30 on July 20, when the storm had dissipated, the tourists were brought to shore to ensure safety.

On the morning of July 20, Lieutenant Colonel Doan Duc Long, Chief of Lach Ken Border Guard Station (Ha Tinh Provincial Border Guard) said that on the evening of July 19, in Tien Dien and Co Dam communes, Ha Tinh province, a heavy rain and thunderstorm caused 6 boats under 8m of local fishermen to capsize. After receiving the information, Lach Ken Border Guard Station mobilized dozens of officers, soldiers and fishermen to help the fishermen pull their boats ashore and anchor safely.

As of this morning, fisherman HVM (born in 1968, residing in Co Dam commune) has not been contacted yet, the unit is coordinating with local authorities to search for this fisherman.

Also during the same period, a fishing boat of fisherman T.D.V. (Cam Trung commune, Ha Tinh province) was sunk by waves while on its way into the creek to take shelter from the storm. The 3 crew members on board were quickly found by authorities and brought safely to shore.

In Ky Anh commune (Ha Tinh province), two boats sank but fortunately there were no casualties.
