Theerathon Bunmathan created one of the funniest and most bizarre moments in the AFC Champions League Elite (Asian Cup C1) match between Johor Darul Tazim and Buriram United. The match took place on the evening of December 3 at the Sultan Ibrahim Larkin Stadium (Nusajaya, Malaysia) with no goals but 3 red cards. One of them belonged to Bunmathan.
The Buriram United (Thailand) defender was sent off at the end of the first half while preparing to take a free kick. The referee received advice from the VAR assistants and decided to stop the match to review the video. He discovered that in the previous situation, Bunmathan had acted rudely towards the opposing player.
The indecent act resulted in Bunmathan being disqualified from the match.
Specifically, the Thai star used his hand to touch the private area of Johor Darul Tazim player Arif Aiman. Slow-motion footage released on television shows Bunmathan actively performing a move that resembles pinching Arif Aiman's "private area".
The referee did not take long to review the video as the Buriram United player's actions were so clear. He immediately showed Bunmathan a red card and sent him off the field. Three minutes earlier, Bunmathan had also received a yellow card.
Bunmathan's red card cost Buriram United their numerical advantage. The Thai side had been playing with an extra man since the 13th minute when Johor Darul Tazim's Murilo Henrique was sent off.
Each team had 10 players left on the field, neither side scored a goal. At the end of the match, the referee gave Park Jun-heong (Johor Darul Tazim) another red card.
The match ended 0-0. Johor Darul Tazim and Buriram United both have 8 points after 6 matches. Both representatives of Southeast Asia are not sure of a place in the group of 8 teams that will qualify for the next round of the AFC Champions League Elite (Asian Cup C1) East Group.
