Who are the 6 unemployed Indonesian players?
"The list of naturalized Indonesian players who have become unemployed is growing longer. Currently, there are six players facing this situation, with the latest being midfielder Nathan Tjoe-A-On," CNN Indonesia reported.
The news immediately sent shockwaves through the Indonesian football world. The six players listed above are Tjoe-A-On, Hubner, Amat, Pattynama, Haye and Struick. All are overseas players returning from Europe.
Among these, the case of Jordi Amat is a bit of a stretch. The Spanish-born centre-back has a contract with Malaysian club Johor Darul Tazim (JDT) until June 21. There is still no information about his contract being extended, so CNN Indonesia's listing of Amat as an unemployed player is quite hasty.
Amat is also 33 years old this year. If he accepts a pay cut, the midfielder who used to play for Spanish youth teams will find a suitable team in Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile, the remaining young stars are all unemployed between June 15 and June 18, which is usually the end of their contracts in European football.
The most notable of these is Thom Haye, a midfielder who is at the peak of his powers and has played very well in the Dutch Championship (Eredivisie) for many years. Haye was a mainstay at the clubs NAC Breda, Heerenven and Almere.
But after the end of this season, Haye and Almere decided not to renew the contract. The 30-year-old midfielder is valued at 1 million euros in the transfer market, so it will not be difficult to find an average team in Europe.
Haye received a salary of about 500,000 USD (more than 13 billion VND)/year last season, this is not too high a number for teams in the group of European football powers.

Risk to young players
The remaining four players are all quite young, with defender Pattynama 26 years old, and Tjoe-A-On, Struick and Hubner all 23 or younger.
As for Tjoe-A-On and Hubner, they have not made enough impressions for the prestigious teams in Europe. Hubner has been on the payroll of Premier League club Wolverhampton since 2023, while Tjoe-A-On has just had his contract terminated by Swansea.
These two players were once the pillars of Indonesia in the early stages of applying the naturalization policy. But now both have gradually lost their position as Indonesia continues to bring in other better stars, while they have not made any progress.
Rafael Struick is even worse than the aforementioned duo in terms of potential. He failed to stick around at Australian club Brisbane Roar. All three players are not highly valued on the transfer market.
Thom Haye and Jordi Amat probably don't have to worry too much. With their class and experience, this veteran duo will soon find a suitable club.
As for the rest, being unemployed now could cause them to fall behind in their careers, as well as lose their place in the Indonesian national team.
