Burning heat at the construction site of Vung Ang - Bung highway

TPO - The Vung Ang - Bung Expressway connecting Ha Tinh and Quang Binh is nearing completion and is expected to open to traffic at the end of June. Despite the intense heat, workers are still working hard to "overcome the heat" and complete the remaining work so that the road can be completed as scheduled.

Vung Ang - Bung Expressway, an important part of the North - South Eastern Expressway project, started construction in January 2023 with a total investment of more than VND 12,500 billion. The project is invested by Project Management Board 6 (under the Ministry of Transport, now the Ministry of Construction ), starting at the intersection of Ky Tan commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province, directly connecting with Ham Nghi - Vung Ang Expressway.

With a length of more than 55km, this highway passes through nearly 13km of Ha Tinh province and more than 42km of Quang Binh province. In particular, the section through Ky Anh district and Ky Anh town (Ha Tinh) stands out with many sections crossing hills, mountains, and lakes, creating majestic landscapes.

Along the highway, many large-scale viaducts have been built. A typical example is Bridge No. 1, located in Ky Hoa Commune (Ky Anh Town), with a total investment of about 300 billion VND. This nearly 1km long bridge connects two hills, spanning a valley with rugged terrain.

Bridge No. 1 consists of 22 spans, with piers 30-50m high, and is considered one of the most complex construction items on the entire Vung Ang - Bung route. To ensure progress, hundreds of workers were mobilized by the contractor to work continuously in many shifts, despite the harsh weather.

“The hot weather and strong Lao wind make the construction work at the site more difficult than ever, but we workers try our best to complete the assigned work and bring the project to the finish line soon. We are also very proud to contribute a little effort to the construction of a key traffic project,” said Le Minh Thong (46 years old, from Ha Tinh), who is constructing Bridge No. 1. Due to the intense heat in Ha Tinh at this time, construction workers are easily dehydrated. They have to cover their faces, use air-conditioned clothes and drink water continuously.

A representative of Hoa Binh 479 Joint Stock Company - the project implementation unit, said that workers are focusing on constructing the remaining two spans of the bridge. The unit is also mobilizing workers, machinery, overtime, and extra shifts to quickly complete the main structure of the bridge, ensuring it will be open to traffic by the end of June.

Next are viaducts No. 2 and No. 3, built with soft curves along the Kim Son reservoir (capacity of 17.5 million m3 of water), located in Ky Hoa commune (Ky Anh town).

This highway section has a majestic landscape with high mountains on one side and a clear blue lake on the other, creating a unique beauty.

Bridge No. 2 and No. 3, with a total length of more than 1km across Kim Son Lake, have completed the asphalt paving and are being urgently installed with hard dividers and painted with lines by construction units to prepare for operation.

Next are Bridge No. 4 and Bridge No. 5, forming a route across the valley, through the mountains and forests, leading to Deo But Tunnel - the only tunnel through the mountains on the North-South Expressway through Ha Tinh province. Currently, these bridge items have been completed, the project implementation unit has paved the road surface, installed signs and railings.

The Deo But tunnel project, located in the two communes of Ky Hoa (Ky Anh town) and Ky Lac (Ky Anh district), is nearly 1km long and has a total investment of more than 1,100 billion VND. This is the only road tunnel in the total length of more than 107km of the North-South expressway in the East passing through Ha Tinh province.

The tunnel is designed with 2 tubes, the left tunnel is 716 m long, the right tunnel is 840 m long, each tunnel is 15 m wide and 8 m high.

The reflective cone system to separate lanes inside Deo But tunnel has also been installed.

Currently, the Vung Ang - Bung expressway is gradually being completed, many sections have been installed with railings, guardrails, painted lines and traffic signs. When put into operation, this route will significantly contribute to shortening travel time between Quang Binh and the northern provinces, promoting socio-economic development in the region. According to Project Management Board 6 (Ministry of Construction), up to now, the value of construction and installation has reached about 93% of the total volume value. The current bidding packages basically meet the requirements of human resources and machinery, and are on schedule for handover.
