Deciding to share her story, pharmacist Do Thuy Anh (born in 1996) wants to inspire working and married women to study and pursue their dreams.
Thuy Anh graduated with a bachelor's degree from Hanoi University of Pharmacy in 2019. After 5 years working at the National Children's Hospital, she decided to seek a scholarship to study abroad to improve her capacity and experience. She dreams that when she returns, she will be able to contribute more to her work at the hospital.
Currently, Thuy Anh has gone to the US to begin studying for a master's degree in global health at Rutgers University (New Jersey, USA).
At the peak of the pressure, Thuy Anh wrote essays, completed scholarship applications; worked at the institute, participated in many institute programs; and... organized a wedding. There were times when she had to actively "freeze" all emotions to overcome the pressure.
At this point, Thuy Anh realized that to achieve impressive achievements, what we need most is not outstanding ability, but persistent determination and clear goals.
During her master's degree in the US, Thuy Anh will focus on pediatric healthcare. She hopes to find effective healthcare solutions for children, especially newborns in Vietnam.
Thuy Anh’s wish is that when she completes her studies, she will have more knowledge about medical care issues for newborns. When she returns home, Thuy Anh hopes to be able to participate in programs to improve knowledge and skills in newborn care in disadvantaged areas of Vietnam.
From tears to faith
Looking back on her scholarship search journey, Thuy Anh realized that there are 3 important factors for candidates who are already working to increase their success rate.
First of all, the candidate needs to have a strong dream of studying abroad. Thuy Anh has dreamed of studying abroad since she was a child, but she also thought she did not have enough ability to study abroad in the US with a scholarship.

During her interview with a representative of the Fulbright Scholarship Program, she became quite emotional when asked about her hidden fears. She shared her fear that she was “not good enough, not talented enough.”
It was thought that talking directly about her psychological weaknesses would be disadvantageous for Thuy Anh, but in the end the result was surprising.
Besides a burning dream, having a clear purpose is also a very important factor. With the advantage of being a working person, having experience, having a specific purpose and direction in work, Thuy Anh has her own advantage in the process of finding a scholarship.
Finally, determination was the third factor that helped her get the scholarship. Thuy Anh did not hesitate to talk about the times when she wanted to give up her studies, even her job, because she lacked confidence in herself. When sharing these stories, Thuy Anh also showed her determination in overcoming difficulties and challenges.
During her 4 years studying at Hanoi University of Pharmacy, Thuy Anh had times when she could not find inspiration in her studies. When she graduated and started working at the National Children's Hospital, she also encountered many difficulties, felt overwhelmed by her work, fell into a state of lack of confidence, and doubted her own abilities.
But when she was in the most difficult times, she always asked herself: Why did I ever choose to walk on this path?
Thuy Anh knows that she loves children very much and always wants to provide the best care for them. Remembering that first simple thought, she continues to strive to overcome difficulties to study, work and gradually progress, becoming more steadfast in both her working capacity and attitude at work.
Her secret when facing difficulties and challenges is not to think too much when she is down. When she knows she wants to keep trying, Thuy Anh will just "do, do and do", try her best and not set any big expectations.
She herself, in the process of searching for an opportunity to study abroad, did not expect that she would achieve her dream, she just told herself "let's just give it a try".
“Just Do It”: The Secret to Overcoming the Moment of Giving Up
When deciding to share her story, Thuy Anh wanted to tell it as truthfully as possible. During her years studying pharmacy, at first, Thuy Anh had not found her true passion.
Thuy Anh studied pharmacy to continue her family's tradition, but she studied in a perfunctory way, because she couldn't find inspiration. She graduated with a good degree.
When she started working, she realized how much she had paid for her years of not devoting herself to studying. Thuy Anh had shortcomings in her professional knowledge and had to make a lot of effort to self-study while working.
There were times when she regretted not trying harder when she was in school. She admitted that she let her emotions overwhelm her too much, studying based on inspiration. If she had studied harder, she could have solved problems at work more quickly and effectively.
However, Thuy Anh tells herself to "just do it" whenever she encounters a problem. She studies while doing, reinforcing her knowledge with practical experience. She accepts that each person is suited to a different way of learning. Learning from practice is the most effective way for her to absorb knowledge.
Thuy Anh's way of overcoming her low spirits is to drive her motorbike "wandering around". She will ride until she feels calmer before going home.
To help herself increase her mental stability and look back thoroughly at what has happened, Thuy Anh maintains a regular diary. It is the diary that helps her see things clearly, find a direction, and motivate herself to overcome difficulties. In addition, to increase her physical and mental endurance, Thuy Anh prioritizes exercise.
However, Thuy Anh also realized that work and life will always find ways to challenge us.
Having to go through the feeling of being unsteady and losing balance is a reality that certainly happens, even happens... quite often. At this time, we need to have physical and mental endurance, clear thinking, to outline the order of priority in the untangling sequence, gradually untying the knots.
At work, the way Thuy Anh overcomes problems is to have clear and frank dialogue with colleagues and superiors. When she feels there is a problem at work, Thuy Anh always focuses on effective dialogue to know exactly what the parties involved want and expect from her. From there, the parties will agree on how to solve and untangle the problems.
Love, marriage and the decision to study abroad right after marriage
For those who wish to study abroad after getting married, Thuy Anh believes that the most important thing is the agreement of the husband and wife. Thuy Anh is lucky to have found a partner who believes in and encourages her.
The most important criteria she looks for in her “other half” is kindness. She wants to be with someone who gives her a sense of security, so that both parties can confidently pursue the things they want to do, even after marriage.
Right after getting married, Thuy Anh received the news that she had won the Fulbright scholarship. At that time, her emotions were quite chaotic. The last relative she told the good news to was... her husband. To be able to make the decision to study abroad right after getting married required Thuy Anh to have emotional balance and strong belief in her own decision.
Finally, she and her partner sat down to re-arrange some plans. Although there were times when she felt confused and bewildered, Thuy Anh knew exactly the path she wanted to take to the end.
