A pregnant woman in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province, gave birth safely with the fetus's umbilical cord wrapped around its neck four times.

The baby girl was just born at Saigon Tam Ky General Hospital.

Through examination and ultrasound, Dr. Hoang Van Bien discovered that the fetus had the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck multiple times - a sign that required close monitoring. Immediately, the medical team proactively developed a detailed birth plan, ensuring all timely treatment options in case of any unusual developments.

Thanks to the smooth coordination and high level of expertise of the medical team, the birth was safe, the baby cried for the first time in the joy of the family and medical staff. The baby girl weighed 2.8kg, rosy, sucked well, and was completely healthy.

According to Dr. Hoang Van Bien, the umbilical cord wrapped around the neck is not always dangerous, but if it is wrapped too many times or too tightly, it can cause lack of oxygen, heart rhythm disturbances, and even threaten the life of the fetus.

"This case was lucky because it was detected early and closely monitored throughout the labor process," said Dr. Hoang Van Bien.
