During the meeting and exchange to welcome the delegation of the Cuban Journalists Association to visit Vietnam and attend activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day on June 19, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes emphasized that the connection between the press of the S-shaped country and the Caribbean island nation not only originates from the traditional friendship between the two countries, but was also forged during the fierce years of resistance against the US by the Vietnamese people.

During those difficult but heroic years, Cuba devoted all its media resources to propagating and spreading the truth about the heroic struggle of the Vietnamese people to the international community, from exposing the unjust nature of imperialism to portraying the courageous fighting spirit of the Vietnamese people.

The two main agencies of the Cuban press at that time were the Prensa Latina News Agency and Radio Habana, which played the role of regularly and fully reporting on the war and the situation in Vietnam. In addition to supporting the media, Cuba also trained many Vietnamese reporters, who not only worked in the Caribbean island nation but also resided in many other countries.

“At the same time, Cuba also sent its best journalists to the battlefield in Vietnam to report on the developments of the resistance war,” the Ambassador shared. Among them was journalist Marta Rojas - the first person to report on the trial of hero Nguyen Van Troi, thereby helping the international community understand the truth about the trial and the nature of the puppet regime. She was then sent to the battlefield in South Vietnam, interviewing many important historical figures.

Along with Ms. Marta Rojas, journalist Valdés Vivo also came to Vietnam, worked in many war zones, and later became the Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam. Both journalists wrote books about the indomitable struggle of the Vietnamese people, these works were published in Cuba and then introduced to Vietnamese readers.

Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes mentioned documentary filmmaker Santiago Álvarez Román - who made many documentaries about the resistance of the Vietnamese people and interviewed President Ho Chi Minh. Films such as “79 Spring” or “ Hanoi , Tuesday the 13th” have become exemplary works of Cuban cinema, truly reflecting the fighting spirit of the Vietnamese people.

“Therefore, the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press is a day of victory for Cuba,” the diplomat emphasized.
