Pioneering, powerful mainstream

Looking back at the 100-year history of Vietnam's revolutionary press, Hanoi is the place that laid the foundation for the formation and development of modern national-language press. Dai Viet Tan Bao, founded in 1905, was one of the first national-language newspapers, contributing to spreading the spirit of innovation and reform. After Thanh Nien Newspaper published its first issue on June 21, 1925, opening the history of Vietnam's revolutionary press, Hanoi was also the "cradle" of many patriotic and progressive newspapers such as Phong Hoa and Ngay Nay, contributing to the revival of people's knowledge and the dissemination of democratic and revolutionary ideas.

After the August Revolution in 1945, the capital's press continued to play an important role in consolidating the revolutionary government and arousing the spirit of national unity, such as the newspapers Dan Y, Tien Len, Tia Sang, Thoi Moi, Ha Noi Daily...

The Liberation Day of the Capital (October 10, 1954) was an important milestone, creating a turning point for the capital's press. Just 4 days later, a fixed radio station was installed at the Thuy Ta Information - Exhibition House with simple technical facilities, laying the first foundation for the city's spoken and visual newspaper - Hanoi Radio and Television Station. Notably, on October 24, 1957, the Capital Newspaper - the predecessor of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, launched its first daily issue to readers. As the agency of the Hanoi Party Committee, the voice of the Party Committee, government and people of the capital, for nearly 68 years, Hanoi Moi Newspaper has always been a pioneer newspaper on the propaganda front, making important contributions to the overall achievements of the capital and the country.

Under the leadership of the Party and the direction of the Hanoi Party Committee and People's Committee, the capital's press has overcome all difficulties, hardships and challenges, fostered confidence, fanned the flame of revolutionary enthusiasm in each generation of people, created a great solidarity between classes and strata, and contributed to bringing the struggle for national independence to complete victory. During the years of resistance, the capital's press demonstrated its steadfast political will, becoming a "sharp weapon" on the ideological and cultural front. Many journalists "held both pen and gun" to fight in the midst of bullets and bullets, entering the most fierce war zones. Some journalists were injured and sacrificed, but the flow of information never stopped.

After the country's reunification, especially in nearly 40 years of renovation, the role of the capital's press has become increasingly clear in propagating, encouraging and motivating the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army to successfully implement the renovation policy initiated and led by our Party. Together with the Hanoi Moi Newspaper, Hanoi Radio and Television Station, the capital's press agencies such as the Economic & Urban Newspaper, the Capital Security Newspaper, the Capital Youth Newspaper, the Capital Labor Newspaper, the Capital Women Newspaper, the Hanoi People Magazine and major press agencies in Hanoi such as the People's Newspaper, Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television, the Voice of Vietnam , the People's Army Newspaper, the People's Police Newspaper... actively and truthfully reflect all aspects of social life.

Journalist Nguyen Minh Duc, Party Secretary and Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, commented that the capital's press, including Hanoi Moi Newspaper, has done a good job of propaganda and dissemination, aiming to raise awareness, build trust and social consensus in implementing the Party's resolutions, policies, plans and major decisions of the Central and the city; encouraging cadres, party members and people to actively carry out the city's political tasks. Hanoi's press has also pioneered in propagating and protecting the Party's ideological foundation, proactively fighting against wrong views, doing a good job of orienting public opinion, contributing an important voice in carrying out the political tasks of the capital and the country. In addition, the capital's journalists have many works discovering and highlighting typical advanced factors, good people - good deeds in various professions, especially those who study and follow Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.

“In particular, Hanoi Moi Newspaper in particular and the capital's press in general have established a methodical and in-depth approach, creating a widespread social effect in propagating the revolution of restructuring and streamlining the apparatus, the major viewpoints of the Party and General Secretary To Lam on the "new era - the era of national rise", contributing to arousing confidence, fostering aspirations, orienting development thinking, contributing to bringing the capital and the whole country into a new period of development" - Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Minh Duc emphasized.

Journalist To Quang Phan, Chairman of the Hanoi Journalists Association, affirmed that under any conditions, favorable or difficult, the Hanoi press still rises proudly, fulfilling the mission of "shock troops on the ideological and cultural front", successfully completing the task of propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws, the City Party Committee, the People's Council, the City People's Committee and all levels and sectors.

Accompanying the Capital and the country in the digital age

In the 4.0 era, the Capital and the whole country are determined to build a digital government, digital economy and digital society. Accordingly, the Capital's press has proactively transformed digitally, improved content quality, and applied modern technology in production - distribution - interaction. Journalist Nguyen Minh Duc, Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, commented that modern press is witnessing a strong transformation, going beyond the traditional framework to adapt to the digital era, continuing to accompany the cause of building and developing the Capital and the country.

Most of the capital's press agencies have built a converged newsroom model, applying technology to the modern journalism process. Newspapers have promoted the production of multimedia content such as videos, infographics, megastories, e-magazines, podcasts; built their own digital platforms, and spread information through social networks such as Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, etc. to bring information and activities of the capital and the country quickly, strongly, and vividly to modern readers. Press agencies also organize special pages and columns according to "hot" topics, closely following the political and social life of the capital to orient public opinion; reflect the thoughts and aspirations of the people in a timely and accurate manner; contribute practical solutions for the cause of building and developing the capital and the country.

The power of the capital's press is increasing as Hanoi officially put into operation the Capital Press Center - the second facility of the Hanoi Center for Communications, Data and Digital Technology from May 9, 2025. This is a professional, modern center, applying high technology, meeting the communication requirements in the digital age, demonstrating efforts to innovate press and communication work, towards a public - transparent - modern press.

The transformation of the capital’s press in the digital age is not only a change in technology, but more deeply, it is a change in the mindset of journalism, focusing on readers, taking social influence and effectiveness as the measure of success. Press agencies are no longer simply “reporting news” but are becoming “digital content creators” to accompany the development goals of the capital in the new era.

In the 100-year history of Vietnam's revolutionary press, the Capital's press has been making proud marks, from the journey of accompanying the resistance war to the role of "bridging" between the Party, the State and the people in the process of construction and development. "The Capital's press, the Capital's journalists, are always united and determined to fulfill their assigned political tasks, absolutely trust in the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam; deeply imbued with the guiding ideology and great orientation of the Party and General Secretary To Lam on the new era - the era of national development; the orientation and direction of the Hanoi Party Committee and People's Committee in the cause of building and developing a cultured - civilized - modern capital; building a rich and strong country" - Chairman of the Hanoi Journalists Association To Quang Phan affirmed.
