As of 11:00 a.m. on June 21, very heavy rain continued in many localities in the Viet Bac region and the northern mountainous region, causing serious flooding in Thai Nguyen City, Song Cong City, Pho Yen City and many residential areas along the Cau River and low-lying areas of Thai Nguyen province.

According to the Thai Nguyen Province Hydrometeorological Station and the local automatic rain gauge system, the rain has continued from the night of June 20 until noon today. In the last 6 hours, the rainfall has exceeded 100mm, with many places in Thai Nguyen City alone having over 200mm of rain.
Under the influence of the tropical convergence zone combined with low pressure, strong thunderstorms caused prolonged rain from the night of June 20, overloading the drainage system, while rising river water led to widespread flooding.

In Thai Nguyen City, Minh Cau, Phan Dinh Phung, Hoang Van Thu, Luong Ngoc Quyen, Cach Mang Thang Tam, Ben Tuong, Dan intersection streets… all recorded water levels ranging from 0.2m to over 1m. Traffic was paralyzed, and people’s lives were seriously affected.


Nong Lam resettlement area, Tan Long ward and the intersection of Quang Trung - Z115 road have many vehicles stuck, requiring water rescue. The water level of Cau river at Gia Bay station is rising rapidly, in the next 24 hours it may exceed alert level II.
According to SGGP Newspaper's investigation, there was an emergency case due to flood in Thai Son 2 hamlet (Quyet Thang commune, Thai Nguyen city) - near Nui Coc lake area, 3 mother and children of Ms. Doan Khanh Van were completely isolated in a 3-storey house, the house was flooded deep up to the middle of the first floor stairs, the water was flowing so fast that the 3 mother and children could not escape. At 11 o'clock, local authorities approached and rescued them to safety.

Speaking to SGGP Newspaper reporters over the phone, Ms. Van said that the water rose very quickly, and neighbors tried to rescue her but could not open the door. Currently, Ms. Van and her three children have been taken to a house in a less flooded area. There are still a few families in the alley that are flooded but people have not yet evacuated.

In Lao Cai province, the Kim Thanh - Bat Xat route had landslides and was flooded. In Son La province, there were also landslides and flooded crops in Tan Tri commune, Bac Son district. At noon on June 21, National Highway 2 at Km35 (Ham Yen - Tuyen Quang) was deeply flooded, making traffic very difficult.

According to the Thai Nguyen Provincial Electronic Information Portal, the Cau River water level at Gia Bay station is rising rapidly and may exceed the level II warning level in the next 24 hours. The water level of Nui Coc Lake in Thai Nguyen City also continues to rise. Thai Nguyen Provincial authorities have issued warnings of high risks of flooding in low-lying areas, landslides, and flash floods in mountainous areas. People are advised to monitor information regularly and proactively take measures to ensure safety for people and property.
